Is anyone using the burst hmg? It seems good at range but lousy up close.
Any thoughts? |

I would use the reg HMG. The whole point of a HMG is to blow away targets up close. |

i have as of yet been able to do much more then scratch someones shields with these, perhaps it has to do with my level one skill rating in hmg, though i would have figured the two tremor damage enhancers would have made a slight compensation for that. |

That's not a bad idea that would maybe make it worth using. |

Honestly, I've done better with the Burst HMG than the regular ones since I am very accurate with most weapons even though I've turned in my Heavy Machine gun and went on with Forge guns since I can snipe even snipers from a long range with it.
Anyways, as far as the Burst goes, its only good if you can aim well with it and not just blow rounds everywhere. The gun can kill almost anything at a close range with a full on burst, about 1100 Damage within the 45 round burst. However, you will be at a loss since the Burst can only really take down on target at a time or sometimes 2 on occasion. If you aren't accurate with the weapons, then I suggest you go the regular machine gun because it requires the accuracy likewise of the Breach Shotguns and so on.
So in essence, if you want to sacrifice the value of doing overall damage damage for better accuracy overall and shotgunning (Burst damage) then go burst, otherwise stay with the regular. |

Yes I find that the jumping princesses are much harder to hit with the burst but easy game with the reg hmg. |

It does double the dps it's like a giant shotgun, but you have to hit with every shot. If you can't keep them in your sights practice with it |

I think the main trouble is the time between bursts. I gave up heavy ages ago, but I was trying the burst. I found it superior against single targets in all regards, however 2 vs 1 was impossible. I didn't even get the chance to fire 4 bursts and over heat. 1-2 then drop. One interesting aspect for me was that my combat style was more similar to forge gunning, because of the delay between bursts. Reduced delay would make it a masters weapon. Easy to overheat, and still important to be accurate. |

Here we are into another build and I still don't see anyone using either the burst or the assault hmg on any type of regular usage.
I would really hope they would eliminate these ideas cause they really don't make much sense for a hmg.
Gives us more variant to the hmg there is only one worth using and it is an aur version. The boundless is way to expensive to use for very many matches and offers no real advantage but to have to pay for the only hmg worth using is not right either.
Yes the lower teir hmg are nice and are much better than earlier builds, as every other role gets better guns we have only one variant to work from cause the burst and assault are not great alternatives. |

Here's hoping they don't 'fix' HMG's by reducing the one effective one.
Heavies past entry suits are in a much better place. I expect to die being in front of them and need to tag team them if I want to kill them, or sneak up from behind to solo. Going up against HowDidThatTaste is always a challenge but a fun one. |

Personally I always thought hmg's need a breach variation (more damage per round, slower rpm, and quicker heat build up) thoughts? |

At least this would be a viable option! High damage slow firing this could be a great weapon!
The burst is kinda ridicules to many pauses between shooting hell it takes that long just to get the thing aimed then, wait, shoot, wait, shoot just silly. |

The burst HMG is amazing at range you can headshot fools all day long. Hint do not use proto use advanced. :) Now the problem is the over heat is way to quick on it you fire 3 burst and your overheated. :/ But yes if your good at holding a gun on a target the burst can one shot burst most infantry I use to play around with it a bit.
Assault HMG is useless by the time that extra range is even useful because the bead has moved in close enough for you to be able to hit with most of your shots your overheating. so in the end the higher damage kills faster at closer range and really pushes its range limits to the edge.
2 ways to fix things burst needs to have alot slower overheat time. if the Advanced still works like it does on its very quick and very small pattern at the end of burst all burst need to work like the advanced.
a way to fix the range hmg. Make it become more accurate quicker maybe even knock of a little damage if that makes it to powerful. |

it really is like comparing a shot gun to an SMG... the SMG is far more survivable in 70% of situations, but the shot gun is deadly to those caught in sight and in range of the weapon. |

A pistol requires a similar level of skill to use at range and is much more useful as they are still somewhat accurate when hip-firing on the move. You can't mow them down with it like you can with an HMG, but if they're in anything better than militia fits you're not going to be cutting them down with the assault HMG anyway.
The burst HMG looks good on paper and I've had some success with it. But it seems that spread is also affected by training heavy weapon sharpshooter, making it almost too difficult to use effectively in any situation even remotely chaotic. I've heard that the broadside is in fact an error and will be fixed with the next build bringing it in line with the standard MH-82.
Still, the burst and assault HMG's are pretty much worthless. Useful in a very few situations, yes. But not useful enough for me to be satisfied with them being the only other options. |

as a fellow heavy, I would like to see different variations with the HMG...
Various damage levels Various heat buildup levels Various rates of fire Various ranges Various bullet spreading (cone) Various weight to affect speed slightly Various levels of "kick" while firing Full auto vs burst fire (various lengths of burst fire in different guns) |

Only thing I can think of is using a cone would make the gun too powerful at extremely close range. Can't remember the exact numbers but if all rounds hit the target an MH-82 would take out a proto assault suit with 4 complex shield extenders and maxed skills in something like 3/4 of a second. Just going from memory, though. |
