What is the reason behind the Starmap?
I've never played EVE, I started dusk as I was interested to see how Dusk and EVE work together.
So, yeah back to my original question. |

What is this "Dusk" you speak of?...
The Star map is a map of the universe Dust takes place in. Evey dot is a star system you can visit in EVE, Eventually you'll be able to see things like who holds what space etc etc |

It's a map of New Eden, the EVE universe.
Each point represents a system (like our solar system) which itself may contain several planets.
The lines between systems represent the presence of a jump gate connection - i.e. the ability to travel directly between the two connected systems by mean of a jump gate. |

Dust rather!
Aye, I get what it represents. But what is the function of it? Just something nice to look at? Or when the Beta is other, have a deep and meaningful use. |

Well, eventually you'll be able to travel to any of those systems, and fight on the planets within them (assuming, of course, you have the proper logistical support). So...it's basically the map of the entire accesible universe. |

When it's fully functional you can use it to see if the alliance in question actually holds any star systems like they claim. Starmap in EVE also is used to see which stations have most people, where most pod kills happen (player pirates) basically it shows you all the statistical information you can think of even if 3rd party services such as Dotlan show you the same in more clearer manner.
In EVE the most important function for the map is for setting your autopilot to avoid certain systems (usually outlawed sectors) or checking you capitals jump range (which dotlan does better). Other functions for the map include sovereignty indexes (such as which system has the most mining going on for raids and so forth).
So start map is quite essential for EVE and depending how dust is integrated it might become so for the dust as well. |
