Hello to you all.
As you know, there are currently a very small number of maps during the beta. With the official release being no where in sight. We are at an age where even the most basic of gamers understand what goes into making a game, a storyline, a map. Which is why we are here. We were selected to give our honest views of Dust 514 without holding back. To give our creative opinions for the betterment and future of Dust 514.
Let's get to the details. I propose we hold a Map making contest within our small esteemed community. Dust 514 is currently running on Unreal Engine 3, in which is a free engine used for game creation. However there are a few problems to be hashed out before the contest is even possible.
First and foremost. We would need the Dust 514 Staff and Developers compile a Map-making kit filled with skins, meshes, scripts for activating events, and a few other key parts necessary for the level creation process. It's up to the staff to decide how we go about creating maps for them.
Secondly, as were are a small community, I along with whoever else is out there that is skilled with Unreal Engine 3 would need to be supportive to the interested beginners that wish to be a part of the contest but have no map making experience. I suggest the Dust 514 staff make a section in the forum for all questions and views regarding level design. From my views, this would be a success with a minimum of 5 Dust 514 members experienced in some way with Unreal Engine. With at least me being one such member, we're looking for 4 more to help spearhead this effort.

Third. Setting up the proper place to send our submissions in. With the workload the Dust 514 staff is handling and the amount of job positions open for developers, I imagine everyone is in constant stress. Letting the players offer custom maps would prove a good direction in both mentality of the staff and enthusiasm/dedication of the players.
Once valid map designs are submitted and reviewed. I'd expect no less than to see a section in the Match Finding section for User-submitted maps. Much like Microsofts "Halo" series.
This sounds to be a rather daunting task however this is necessary at some point in Dust 514. Eve Online is immensely popular because of the unique gameplay and world lore. Dust 514 cannot say the same due to the reproduction and repetitiveness of Lobby style FPS games. With this contest, I hope one more step can be taken to making Dust 514 equal to or greater than the Modern Warfare or Battlefield series.(<----Seeing as they don't have map creation that's a win in my book)
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Sincerely, Sincereless |
