Take a gas planet for example, cook up a big open area map ( Think big cube ) have MCC type ships that launch fighters, and the fighters do battle within said (cube).. First team too lose all their supply of planes, or after X amount of pilot respawns... match ends
Must be Air Combat Only, have floating extractors ect. which you can bank around and use as "airial cover"..
What yall think? |

I Dont find it that far of a jump my self... is it a skill issue you have? The inability to fly?
Example, Battlefield 1943 is a FPS game, where it has an Air Superiority mode... where you guessed it, you can only fly and dog fight...
Infact it was the whole reason i purchased that game...

Ive away thought of gas planets becoming more of an island hopping campaighn rather than only air combat
Pilots will have a large role in gas planets
-dropship pilots- transport the troops from floating city to floating city who then capture and control the island of metal.
-fighter pilots- provide support for and defend dropships and "ground support aircraft"
-ground support aircraft pilots- (first we need a better name) support ground troops for the most part the islands be to small for tanks so these guys will be the tank of aircraft.
-others- still to be determined
Of coarse foot soldiers are still a main and necessary part but for a gas planet aircraft become the main vehicle as the ground is floating steel platforms and not only will tanks and lavs have a hard time moving around they will also have a hard time killing anything givin that there will be so so many walls and crap. After all the platforms are specally built for industry and factories not farmland though im shure there are a few ways to give tanks there fair placebut it be tricky as the map would have to be made just right |

What yall think? When I hear this, I think of that Cloud City map in Star Wars Battlefront. Plenty of infantry combat, but a lot of open air for vehicles as well. |

I always figured it would be a single platform, but moving from platform to platform would create some interesting realities. Attackers would push a single front, leaving distant points undefended, and then the defenders could unexpectedly fly over and capture those points. It would have to be carefully balanced, as always, but it could be really fun.
I definitely feel like different types of terrain should have different advantages and disadvantages, even to the extent where certain things become near-useless (like, in this case, ground vehicles). But I don't think there would be any maps where we lose the gun game completely. Wouldn't those just be EVE battles instead? |
