Lets go with Hover units that replace the treads. These give the tank a large increase to agility and speed, while at the same time lowering armor and stability. With the current caterpillar treads you have low speed and low agility, while gaining a stable platform and heavy armor.
I believe this could add some variety to armored warfare, and would be pretty damn fun to drive. |

Would be cool, but currently the tread tanks are stupid fast so I don't see this fitting well. If we slowed down current tanks but increased their ability to climb terrain I could see a hover type tank having a place. |

What does "stability" mean? This isn't an attribute I'm aware of vehicles in Dust possessing.
Losing armor for speed is already accomplish with nanofiber structure, or whatever it's called. |

Indeed, however when we start seeing armor fitted tanks and actual power supply implemented, we may begin to see some very heavy-slow moving vehicles. Hover tanks would be far more viable then, and even now fast moving tanks would dominate open areas, able to close the gap between armies quickly while still bringing firepower to [Sp?]bare. |

How stable the platform wielding the gun is. A standard tanks rest upon the ground unmoving, hence a very stable platform. A hover tanks is constantly in motion staying in the air a few feet above the ground. Not very stable at all.
This stability affects the accuracy of the tanks weapons, usually because it is harder to hit a target while in motion.

hover tank would be ideal for laser weapons as there is no recoil. the enginge would need to counter thrust any recoil to remain stable. |

Okay, so instead of "stability" why don't we call it "accuracy". |
