Something which has surprised me is the lack of people trying to take active Squad Leader roles. Now before you say "But there's no command suit so there's no purpose in leading" just hear me out. Squad leading is an important role with or without special abilities because you keep everyone in the squad banded together with a common goal and teamwork in mind. Now because no one else has been talking about it or apparently hasn't even been trying Squad Leading I decided to give it a shot.
I got two random people to join me off of the LFSquad channel and I evaluated what their roles were, one Assault, one Heavy/Logi/Scout with me being Logi. I decided we would be an Assault, Logi, Heavy squad with me being the Logi so I could stay behind them and focus on the battle as a whole, if there were no spawn points, then the Heavy would use his Scout fitting to put down a Drop Uplink for us to spawn on, then change back to Heavy when he died and Assault would simply do what Assault does, kill.
The first battle was a success, it was an Ambush battle so me and the Assault held our spawn until the Scout put down the spawn point, when he did that we spawned in and cleared the immediate area with relative ease due to the fact that each hostile there was fighting on his own so we managed to outnumber them 3 to 1. The rest of the battle was mainly us defending the spawn point, we eventually tried to push in towards the enemy, but only got ourselves outnumbered and had the spawn point get overrun by hostiles. We still won because every hostile that attacked us had to cross a road that had no cover so we gunned them down as they went across.
The second battle was a Skirmish that we won. We took over our starting points A and B with ease, but we could barely make any progress to capture C or D from the enemy, we'd gotten a hack into C around 2 to 3 times, but they'd capture it back before it could start firing at their MCC. This caused me to think that we weren't making any progress, but one thing I learned from that battle is that just hacking an objective will cause it to stop firing before it even switches to your side so we barely pulled through due to the fact that they only made an attempted hack onto A once.
Finally the third battle was another Skirmish, this time it was the map with the 3 points in the city and 3 on the outskirts. We pushed straight for the city and took it over with surprising ease, we had one point captured outside the city and every point inside of it and I had my squad focused on defending the city. Hostile attacks were few and far in between with only 1 or 2 people attacking at a time through one entrance this caused for an extremely easy match that we obviously won.
All in all I have to say squad leading on this game is very fast paced and challenging while also rewarding very little, using the map gave me invaluable information on the situation of the battle, but tends to make me combat ineffective and its challenging for me to put the right marker on the right place because I can't zoom in enough to clearly see what I'm marking. The rally/defend/capture/attack point system is nice and makes it easy for me to point out where I want my squad to be, but doesn't reward me nearly enough for using it due to the fact that I only earn points for offensive points used, which is very frustrating for me because I used it much more to keep my squad rallied/within close proximity rather than putting markers on hostiles due to the fact that by the time I get the map up and the marker on the hostile they'll either disappear, die or kill me for being a sitting duck.
I also found myself wishing I'd had 3 more people in my squad. In each match there was at least one vehicle or sniper that we had no equipment to deal with and even when we were near a supply point we couldn't change fittings because we were barely able to suppress enemy infantry as it was with all 3 of us focused toward fighting them and we couldn't ask for support from fellow players due to the fact that there is no way for us to communicate to other squads using voice comms which left us to basically fight for ourselves with the rest of the team being nothing but random smurfs that were useless to us.
Oh and one last thing, it would be really nice to have a full compass on the radar so I can quickly call out directions of hostiles.
TL;DR version -Map takes to long to bring up -No inter-squad communication is really frustrating -Need to earn squad leader commission for Defensive way-points -Squads should be 6 players instead of 4 -More people should be actively squad leading |

TL;DR. I have no idea what this is about but by the title I guess that you than no people need to take advantage of the squad leader of bonuses more and I agree

Just because it feels relevant:
If you find yourself squad leader, it's MUCH easier to press R2 followed by R3 to get to your command wheel quickly, allowing you to call out rally points and the like a lot quicker. |

if they would simplify the leaderships command it would make leading a little easier. Anyone who has tried giving a command order has found out your a sitting duck.
just saying, cut out some of the leg work just to frago a target..... |

I'm not surprised more people don't try using squad commands. I have and it is way to complex, time consuming, and sitting duck doesn't begin to cover the vulnerability issue. I notice that those that do issue squad commands don't do it throughout the match. You might get a squad command at the beginning of a match and that's about it. Good luck with that during a skirmish match. Cause it's tough to hit your R2 to the R3 pick your command from the scroll wheel it then x on it the heat of battle. Was kinda hoping the much talked about command suit would resolve this we'll see. |
