Hi everyone,
I've been playing intently the past few days and I've been baffled by a few things. I'm hoping everyone here can help me.
First, I've added a few friends to my contact list (which I assume is the friends list?) but when I go to the leaderboards and view my friends I don't see them on there, I only see myself. How do I get them on there?
Second, I would like to use a Sub-machine gun instead of an assault rifle, but when I go to purchase one from the marketplace it says I'm missing the "Sub-machine gun operation 1" or something along those lines (I'm not in front of my console right now) but when I go to the skills menu to purchase it, it allows me to buy the skill, but I still can't buy the gun in the marketplace. How can I use sub-machine guns?
Also, how can I purchase and upgrade more skills other than my current skills?
Sorry for all the questions! |

I couldn't answer you first question since I have no friends, but I can give my best idea on the others. The submachine-gun operation that you bought MIGHT have just been the skillbook, which after buying, you must then press "use skillbook" and THEN you have to skill up the submachine-gun operation to level one by using your skill points. This system is completely redundant, but I am hoping they will fix it in the next build. As to your third question, you go to your Neocom(press start in the Merc Quarters) go to"Character Sheet" then to "Skills" and you will be shown the skills you currently have. Press R2 to move to a different screen, this will show ALL skills whether you have bought them or not, and you can browse and view what the other skills do. If you haven't done so already, then I recommend Engineering and Electronics to increase your CPU and PG, and Mechanics + Shield Operation and Proficiency to increase your survivability. |

How do I get them on there?! I've seen the friends thing too. Perhaps it is an extension of the PSN API, where you need a person on your Playstation friendlist that plays Dust to show up there. If this were the case and it is not a bug, you would either see all that player's characters, or only the ones in your contact list. I know Little Big Planet did something like this.
You could try adding the characters PSN ID by looking at their info and see if that helps next time you log on.
Logi Bro is correct on the skillbooks, but that is the way they worked in EVE last time I played. You needed to buy the skillbook and then activate it. I can't remember if you had to use skill points to get to level one or not at this point, but that's how it must be done in Dust. |

Those make sense. I haven't done that yet. Thank you for the tips and the help! :)

I have them both in my PSN list and my contact list. I hope this isn't a bug and it just takes time to update and sync the two lists together.

Contacts aren't exactly friends--it's more like an address book. Adding a contact doesn't need to be mutual.
The watchlist is supposed to be people you want to know when they come on/off-line. I'm not sure if it works or not yet.
Adding enemies to either or both is pretty common, actually. Neither should rely on PSN friends at all.
If it's not working, it's probably just not implemented yet or it's a bug. |

1. The Leaderboard friends thing isn't fully implemented yet, thus you only see yourself. Most likely, it would only show you & PSN friends, as Contacts functions more as acquaintance, and Watch List functions as a notification when they're on.
2. From what I've read, you bought the skillbook, but have you actually used the skillbook yet? That may be the main cause of why you cannot use it.
3. From your neocom, go to skills, and hit R2, and it will display all skills that can be purchased atm. |

This is the user manual link provided in the sticky above. I get the feeling it gets passed over alot for some reason.

Hopefully on release there will be an interactive tutorial available for new players. Folks that have already played Eve are for the most part already familiar with the system, though not really intuitive to folks just coming in the door. |
