to all those AV whiners, back in my day we used broken bottles and stones to kill tanks!!!
O.o
This game is unbalanced until i can throw petrol over a tank and then hijack it.

A lot of people assume that because Osama Bin Laden was one of the mujahadeen that fought the Soviets when they invaded Afghanistan back in the day that every mujaheddin from back in the day is fighting us. But actually a large portion of the current Afghan government is made up of those former mujahadeen.
I had the fortune to sit in on a dinner with a sub-governor who fought the soviets when he was younger. He told a story of using RPGs to blow the treads off a soviet tank, then ducking in and out of sight to draw its fire until it ran out of ammunition. When it was dry they all charged it. He then described forcing the hatch open, pulling the driver out by his hair, and cutting his throat with a sword.
I don't think much of this story can be directly related back to DUST, but it should teach you one thing: don't **** with the Mujahadeen. |

Things will change again. Having 4x proto fit tanks in the small beta maps is like having as many grizzly bears in a one bedroom apartment. Too much for sure. Don't forget that soon the maps will open up by a factor of 10, plus additions we haven't gotten to play with like gunships, et al. Having more running room alone will be a game changer, for all classes.
I wouldn't be surprised if the hardener resists get reverted. Tanks are expensive and are supposed to be tough as nails. They have been overpowered only because they've been in too tight of space for infantry to get a tactical advantage over the splash damages, especially with random spawns on death. Even with a beacon, it only takes a few seconds for a tank (or three) to camp the spawn beacon no matter where it is on map. This will be different when the maps open up.
Anyway, I hope the hardeners get adjusted again, though not because I care about tanks. With all the folks jacking up AV skills in response to tanks, dropships have become almost un-flyable. I still do because they're fun, but it's a suicide mission. It might not be so bad if we could park vehicles after a particular task and go on foot.
My point I suppose is that the balances seem to be fairly good (might need tweaking), the imbalance is the tight quarters, combined with a small number of memorizable maps. Both of these problems are already slated to change drastically on release. |
