The game looks good, but controls weird. It's a ps3 exclusive yet it's built like a computer game. The d-pad should be used for things that actually help in combat instead of communication and other such things. Also the sensitivity is really slow even at it's highest. The combat in general is pretty slow, and not in a good way.
This game is just... weird right now. |

You do realize sensitivity is backwards right (learned this last night) 0 not 100 is the max speed. |

Probably should have posted this in feedback/requests... yeah |

I wrote "right now" because I am aware that it's still in beta form. And I did not know that about the sensitivity, thanks. |

I just want to make sure I understand you...You're saying that the D-pad, (up used for the map, down for the scoreboard, left for push to talk and right for vehicle deployment,) should be changed to help combat? What exactly would you recommend to replace it and how would it aid the game as a whole let alone combat?
One thing to keep in mind if you think Dust is odd because it doesn't play like most console based FPS' then that's more or less what CCP is aiming to do IMO, look at EVE for example and try to compare it to any other MMO I'll bet that you'll have a hard time finding a lot of similarities due to the fact that EVE is simply different from most other MMO's out there. |

What things would you rather have on the d-pad? All of the d-pad elements are relevant except reserving left for push to talk. I'm not sure how else you would fit all the necessary functionality onto a controller. If you've played other console FPS's, doubtless you've suffered from the fact that most console FPS's aren't deep enough to need all the buttons on a controller, so redundancies and shortcuts for ease of access develop. Dust doesn't have that luxury.
How long have you played on the control scheme? I'll bet if you give it a little bit longer it'll start feeling extremely natural. |

saying something isn't good, isn't as helpful as you might think. you should suggest fixes for the problem if you don't like the d-pad how world you fix it? how would you make it less like a computer game? simplified menu systems? smaller maps? higher number of max players tighter more urban environments? what do you want? how would you speed up gameplay? |

I don't know. I guess with stuff that you can deploy or set on the ground, things like that should be set to d-pad instead of the weapon wheel. And I don't know what "select" does, but the scoreboard could be set to that. I didn't play that long when I did play because it was late and then I didn't feel like playing again later, but I'll give it another go. I've also never played EVE, maybe i should do that as well. |

Wait for the next build. They said something about the controls that is going to be different. I'm curious about this, because Nova knife is not instant anymore, it's going to have a different skill. Pistol whip anyone? I wonder if I can use my forge gun for whipping. lol |

It sometimes makes me feel a little down when someone with a genuine criticism makes a post and then gets hounded.
Yes, people don't often communicate well. Yes, there are different sections to the forum. Yes there a crap ton of trolls and debbies doomsday downer that do nothing but cry and cry some more here and on the ingame chat. Yes, I have hounded people when I thought they were full of it.
But poster seems legit, did answer questions, pointed to a problem with the game that crops up from time to time.
This sense that the game feels sluggish. Controls feel unresponsive.
Part of the fun of console gaming is that feeling that you can always push the game a little faster. SOmetimes in Dust it feels like you press a button and
a oneGǪ
and a twoGǪ
and a threeGǪ
and then something happens.
Some of the sluggishness of the game is from how people are putting together their fittings and the stock fittings are not too fast. Even though the militia assault rifle is kind of nice to use considering it is freeGǪ But turn speed is awfully slow. I really feel it when I spawn right near enemies and they are shooting me from behind and I just want to be able to do a quick turn and at least have a chance to shoot backGǪ but no. Shot dead.
It is strange that 0 would be the highest sensitivity setting and give you the most responsive controls.
But even playing around with settings there is just something out of sync with how the controller sensitivity, the dead zone I guess it is, and how weapons react to me the player trying to aim while firing.
But it is one of the more difficult things to put into words and can be very subjective.
Often comes down to not being sure, but that something just seems off somehow.
And yes, this is more of a feedback thread. But it is certainly possible to have a productive discussion about feedback... Also it is good to hear from new people. |

Because Vikings. Both backwards -AND- awesome.
As far as communication goes, if you don't want to use the D-pad to talk, just turn the push to talk option off to set your mic to voice activation. |
