As a casual player, I have enjoyed playing a few games in the Beta so far. (I have no idea if my feedback has been helpful, but I try to represent the casual player.) The game has a lot of depth though, and I still feel a bit overwhelmed by the many options.
So far I have gravitated towards the scout dropsuit because of its speed. Sure, I like the sniper stuff too and have spent a few rounds GÇÿcampingGÇÖ, but as always, that gets boring very quickly and only works every now and then. In the other popular shooters I have always been objective oriented in my playing style and love flanking the enemy to mess up their defences. I donGÇÖt mind dying, just as long as IGÇÖve scored a few points for the team or been able to achieve a meaningful goal. I mostly run alone and long distances, allowing me to flank or capture an unguarded objective, but that means I run a lot of risk.
What do more serious players think is a good way to build up a scout that is fast, can easily flank and achieve various useful goals (hacking, messing the enemy defence, whatever else helps the team)? Sniper rifle, or submachine gun? (I found the last to work quite well.) Secondary weapon, or free up space for something else? In what other ways can the scout contribute? I feel like IGÇÖm missing a lot of the potential of the scout.

Grab a shotgun or SMG and some shield mods.
Run circles around people while you shoot them.
Your speed and enhanced shields allow you to engage slower suits at short ranges, perfect for taking objective.
In denser maps your lower sig radius allows you to escape or sneak up without being spotted much more easily. Whack on some hacking mods and you can sneak in, take objectives and then get back out and snipe people who try to restore them. |

Scout shotty.
Use the speed mods for the high, (red ones), and a shield replenesher, (they fit on the right not left). Two shield extenders on the left side. Backup with an SMG (toxin) and some nades.
Great flanking fit, but you have to focus on some secondaries as well which initially spreads your SP a bit thin. Light weapons sharpshooter and shotgun prof is a must, SMG ones are cheap for low levels as well. Throw in a couple for dropsuit command to lower your sig radius and you have a great ninja flanker.
If you have the merc pack, dragonfly and militia items will save you tons of ISK till you get to the advanced suits. |

Plus, get setup with some DropLinks. And drop them around objectives, but out of plain sight. Helps get the big guns to protect taken objectives at the liberty of your speed. |

Thanks for all the ideas! I will see if I can try out some of those this weekend.
The running in circles seems to work pretty well, just need to get my accuracy up a but. I tried the shotgun earlier as well, but without any skill increase it felt pretty ineffective.
How will they deal with the merc pack after the beta? Will that all remain? (I'm still on the fence on that one. Might wait and see what is offered once the full game comes out.) |
