Okay, I spent quite a lot of time and sp into skilling for the Logistics LAV which is our only Advanced LAV at the moment. Let's make some relations clear:
- The sp need for the Logi LAV is more or less one of an HAV at lvl 4 due to the requirements of LAV skill and Shield transfer skill at lvl 4 as well.
- Similar to the HAVs it needs skills in shields/armor as well as other supportive skills in this trees for hardeners and extenders to survive on the battlefield.
- skilling for turrets on a Logi LAV is a costly and pointless endeavour as it sports a 0.5 damage multiplier, which will make a proto missile launcher on it (even with damage enhancers) as effective as the standard launcher...
- The Logi LAV is superior to HAVs in terms of speed and maneuverability.
- Fitting some standard/advanced extenders and hardeners on the already improved resses of the LAV make it quite hardy and durable.
- Unfortunately you can be shot, splashed and crashed out of it as easy as in any other LAV making the additional staying power a two edged sword as it needs more isk investment and yet still does only offer more protection against swarms and grenades to the side. The splash damage (even from AV nades) will even take you out of the vehicle at 70% shield still up.
- The Logi LAV sports a remote shield booster (s) which could also be equipped for 20k on any other LAV at shield transport lvl1. (Why exactly do I need lvl 4 for the Logi LAV then?) The lock on area and everything else stays the same with the built in booster making it take ages to lock on a teammate while fighting the autocamera and the risk of standing somewhere to be sniped out of the vehicle. Not to mention the cooldown at the speed of tectonic movement. Oh yeah and you don't get SP for shield boosting....
So in a nutshell it means:
The current layout of the Logistics LAV is something like Jesus as Driver, and Ghandi as Gunner, driving on a battlefield while Buddha is on the passenger seat. What I want to say is that you can selflessly buff the shields of your mates while striving for martyrdom and MAYBE when you are lucky anough to have a coordinated suqad even get some squad leader commission before some AV grenade homes at you and bombs you out of your intact vehicle.
All together the Logistics LAV needs some serious overhaul concerning the shield booster efficiency, lock-on mechanism and cooldown time as well as points for using the stupid shield boost as using the Logi LAV as a gun platform is a miserable joke. It currently is a grave for isk and sp with no real effect besides being great for running over pedestrians.
Additionally the whole section of Advanced LAV needs love from the next build with Assault and Transport LAVs joining the Logistics LAV.
Oh yeah ... and PLEASE make the shield at least protect the passenger and driver until it's depleted. The gunner can stay as it is. Forcing a pure support vehicle to stand still to do it's job and yet allowing to kill everyone inside without hitting the vehicle when it stands still is making me LAVVVVV .... |

I haven't driven the Logi LAV this build, but last build I had the Limbus.
As it stands there's little to no point in getting the Charybdis tbh. You get nothing back from your investment other than the fact you know you've kept some guy alive a little longer. Shield boosting NEEDS to give the support guy some love. It's totally one sided as it stands and there's zero point in doing it, if earning SP/WP is the reason for getting it that is.
The Limbus is a lot better. It has greater power grid allowing for more and more varied fittings. It also gives repair WP from both HAV's and Infantry.
Couple this with the fact that it takes a good few million SP to get the skills required and the Charybdis just flat out isn't worth the investment in it's current state.
Hopefully the next patch addresses some of these Logistics roles. In every other game I've played I've always been a support player and at the minute I get much more of a benefit from being a killer.
We need more roles that re-enforce teamwork and also to make it clear to everyone out there that teamwork conquers all. A single guy should not be able to counter everything on his own. A lot of people on these forums just plain don't understand this concept as I'm pretty sure their used to running about in CoD quick scoping, noob tubing or camping on thier own farming kills. |

I'm driving the Charybdis at the moment and I agree that having reppers would at least yield some points for reps. Guess I found the most useless SP grave ;) But on the other hand the Char is doing nicely when having hardeners, extenders and a recharge module. It's just so pointless to drive through all the tanks and be able to do nothing to them. |

good to see some LLV threads poppin up agree that skillin into LLVs isnt rewarding at all also and this is just for the LLV as it supports a 0.5 dmg multiplier maybe it should have a cockpit? so the driver isnt exposed for the reasons the OP posted
ur already doin half the dmg as a proper LAV so why not have the driver a bit more secured? |

Very interesting thread indeed !
I agree that it's a shame that the driver can get shot even though there's supposed to be a shield surrounding the vehicle. Also, getting no SP for support seems like a huge scam.
I guess the buggy type vehicles we spotted in various Artwork would be more fit for logistic use. |

What a shame this is. I hope CCP does something!
Also the people getting shot of of vehicles with their shields up is just dumb. It happens to dropship gunners too and it makes no sense! |

UPDATE: Okay. We already read about using LLVs as repair vehicles for tanks. This works okay, but is not balanced in my sight as recharging shields does gain not a single WP while repairing armor does. I tried it just in a game with English Snakes tank and did not get any points. What did work though was setting a DEFENSE beacon on my vehicle and stay close to my squad. Concerning those experience I suggest the following: If the LLV is supposed to be a support vehicle, why doesn't it allow to fit a nanohive or repair turret in the turret slot, or let's replace the shield booster with a hive. Right now the shield boost is more or less pointless and esspecially pointless as it does not net any WP. A mobile hive instead of a gun or even a mobile supply depot would be much better. Why not just allow us to decide for ourselves? I mean it's a Logistics LAV. Why does the most versatile class get the least v ersatile vehicle ?? |

It is really amazing how large is the impact of the damage multiplier of 0.5.
Did anyone notice the strength of the effect of vehicle damage modules? Are they actually working? It seems it doesn't matter if I put some on the Char. |

Honestly, LAVs need to be enclosed. It puts a hard cap on their functionality when no matter how much money you spend on it to increase your defences, you can simply be shot or blown up out of your intact vehicle. |

Well .. at least the av hotfix made something. The char resses seem to be kept up. Yet it still is quite useless as there is barely a way to gain WP with them except by running over pedestrians. |
