I was riding around on the starter vehicle and brought up the map. Game hard locks and can't exit the game or turn off the system from keyboard/mouse or controller. Push power button and nothing happens. Power light is green but flashing. What can I do about this without unplugging the power cord? All I know is this PS3 isn't even six months old and all I've used it for is netflix thus far. Please tell me this game didn't damage my PS3. I can't afford another one. |

I had this a couple of days ago, all I did was hold the power button down until the ps3 turns off then power it on again. No damage has been done to my system. Actually, this isn't the first time this has happened, another game did the same a while back. |

NEVER NEVER NEVER unplug your PS3 if it crashes. This can cause issues with your PS3. When it crashes you can hold down the power button and it will turn off.....sometimes you have to wait a minute or two but it will force it to turn off. Then when you turn it back on it will want to check the file system so do that but everything should be ok. If you unplug it you will destroy the hardware (eventually if not the first time) and its your own fault when it does. |

Had the same hard lock issue (I think twice at this point?). Had to hold down the power button, like the previous couple of posters. Happened less than a minute into the battle, just as I was walking around (wasn't shooting at anything, or doing much of any action, as I recall). |

Holding the power button did not work. It's obviously been hours since this problem started. Is leaving it in this state really not worse than just unplugging it?

I have had this happen a number of times. Holding the power button worked maybe twice. The other times, I have had to unplug to get it to restart. I'll try to pay more attention to when it does this. |

Unplugging the cord shouldn't be much of a problem if you do it. I've had my ps3 hard locked and if it didn't turn off of the power button i would just unplug it. |

If holding down the power button doesnt work your only option is to unplug it.
Hopefully he doesnt reformat.

Actually, holding down the power button to force it to shut down is the equivalent of pulling the plug as that does damage as well to the system.
Pressing the power button without holding it is safe though.
Also, try putting a fan next to your system. It might help with the overheating that could be to blame. The game is poorly optimized and therefore an overworked processor or graphics card could be the culprit. |

If all else fails. see if you can set your PS3 in the DMZ of your internet router. After I did this, I've not had a hard crash like that, crashes, definitely, but nothing so hard that I had to pull the plug. |

I had this happen once with Dust514 with my brand new PS3 from just a couple days ago.
It was not over heating, just waiting in the captains quarters for an instant battle and the whole system froze-- no response from any controller buttons, no response from the on/off button on the PS3.
So I held down the power button on the PS3 for over a minute, STILL nothing. I tried several more times holding down the power button for up to 2 minutes, nothing. just green blinking light.
there was no other way to turn off the PS3 but to pull the plug in the back. very strange.
The PS3 worked fine the rest of the night after I re-plugged it back in and restarted.
