Look at the matches, they're silent. Rarely do you get a group that actually tries to stick together, so there's almost no teamwork. No one knows what the other is doing. I have a mic, and it's really irritation that I need to go to the PSN store, buy AUG and then spend them on the ability to communicate with my team.
Yes, "things cost money in the real world" and yes, "I'm already playing for free, so I shouldn't complain about having to spend money". But at the end of the day, I'm not that motivated to want to buy the ability to talk, If anything it makes me want to move to a different game. Even if I do buy the ability, there wouldn't be anyone to talk to. I would have to get lucky and end up in one of the games where people are actually in a team chat (I've only been in 5 games with this).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming the goal behind this is to eliminate the annoying screamers, scratchy music backrounds, mic chewers, heavy breathers, 10 year old kids, family arguments with the person in the other room, babies crying while their parents ignore them and the always annoying teammate who calls bullshit every time they get killed. We all know them, we all hate them, so I completely understand your logic. However it is really easy to mute these people, and I feel like this method is not the way to go. There are already so few people on PSN with mics that you don't get as many of these problems anyways (atleast no where near as bad as Xbox Live)
The only way this game will really succeed is if you cater to the FPS fan group, and as a member of that group, I'll tell you now, I'm not happy about having to pay real money for a feature every other FPS offers for free. You guy's are competing with CoD, a game that comes out every year but still gets millions on the first day. You have them beat on the depth of character development and customization, but that won't matter if you can't win with basics.
