Ok so I have heard 2 different groups of people saying this on coms so thought I would just reiterate this so people know, I played a game with 2 nice guys but one of them stayed back in rail gun turret saying ill stay back and get you an OB what his thought was that when you get 8 kills without dying then you get an OB and in another game someone was saying damn so close to getting an OB just need 2 more kills
Ok so am I being stupid that OBs are kill streaks or is there a mass rumour going around that they are when in truth its dependant on squad war points, im certain that its the second option, but when you start talking to quite a few people that are adamant its a kill streak you start to doubt yourself |

As far as I'm aware you are right, it is warpoints that allow orbital strikes, although I can see their mistake as each kill awards 50 wp...
but capturing objectives, following Squad leaders commands etc. reward more, Helping the team complete the mission gets more War points (and Skill points for that matter) than just running and gunning or padding your KDR.
Also I don't think that there is an official level where an orbital strike is rewarded, (likely to make it easier for CCP to tune it...)

I've had it pop up when I only got about 4 kills on one life. I know it was my kill that triggered it because it happened as soon as the death noise occurred, so I'm assuming its War Point totals. |

It's still a mechanic where there is an artificial reward for arbitrary performance metrics. If they want to limit them, give each squad leader an ammo limit (and a warbarge total limit for the battle) that represents the support available and let the leader choose when they need it. |

It may be placeholder. The final mechanic may need equipment or mods not ready yet. Or can't be implemented until EvE pilots are overhead, so they test weapon effects while working on integration with place holder? |

OBs are based on War Points earned by the squad. The quickest way to get many is through issuing orders and your squad following them to earn the extra war points you get when following orders.
Example, you get +125 War Points for a kill within range of a vehicle with a defend order on it, and the squash leader gets a +75 commission.
This allows OBs to be earned very quickly. I regularly get 3 or 4 a match when I've played SL with a good squad and with my corp mates we've been known to earn our SL up to 8. |

OBs are meant to be an aspect of Dust/EVE interaction and will require players as well as gear (on both sides) to employ.

for hisec it might stay the way it is casuals will want to call in Killstreaks as well u kno
inb4pplsayitsnotkillstreaks
its technically not, its more pointstreaks/scorechains that the newer cods/MoH have but tweaked to a squad lvl and tbqh the easiest way to get points fast is killin, there are only so many objectives to hack
bottom line is this is not a new innovative feature its been done before in the games ppl love to bash just slightly tweaked so ur squad has to earn the points and not u alone and only the SL can call it in |
