I would like to know the answer to this too, especially since it happened to me yesterday.
On a related note.. did a recent patch/hotfix change losing vehicles when you are kicked from battle? For a while I was not losing my vehicle on disconnects and yesterday I lost a dropship and a tank, one on a freeze, the other on a disconnect |

It does a flying brick impression. With fire.
And yes. Same thing happened to a tank of mine. Disco, and it's gone. |

Mine froze in mid air, and so did my drop ship. My passenger just decided to drop out after a while. I got the ship back that time, but the time after I didn't. |

When you freeze (as I've been told just this moment with teammates in ship) it ceases to receive commands but continues to exist in-game. It simply hovers at your last location and speed eventually slowing down and sinking but you'll lose it from assets, even if you kill your connection before it's destroyed by enemies or by the game itself (which I and many others have complained about as vehicles seem to arbitrarily pop if nobody is in them for a certain period of time, even though they're sitting only 10 feet away). |

Experience from previous builds is that for a very short while the ship continues where it was headed, as the server needs to realize that no more input id coming from the pilot. Seconds at most. Then, as others have mentioned, the dropship... drops, without warning to its passengers beyond the sudden sinking feeling in their guts, which we players won't feel.
