What does buying a skill book do?
Do you have to use them somehow? |

Sometimes (I think) a message pops up immediately after buying it that asks if you want to use it. Other times you have to manually go to that skill and select "Use Skillbook", an option that only appears if you already have one. |

But I have two assault rifle operation skill books, and when I go to that skill there is no option to use a book only, upgrade skill with SP, Show Info or purchase even more skill books... which I don't wanna do cos I have no idea what they do! |

You might already have it unlocked. Depending on what role you chose (Sentinel, etc, etc) when you made your character, you might have learned it automatically. Try putting SP into it. If that works, you've already learned the skill, if it doesn't, then you'll probably have to take this to the technical support forum.
EDIT: The "upgrade skill with SP" you mentioned is the option you want. It means you've already learned the skill (probably because you picked a role that unlocks it automatically). |

Yes you already have the skill learned, you can buy more than one book, but you can't use more than one, once it's learned, you don't need another book, you just upgrade it with sp. Eventually you will be able to sell extra ones on the market, so for example, skill books will be available in certain stations, you could buy a thousand, move them to another station that doesn't sell them and sell them there yourself for a profit. Others in that station can buy them there instead of having to travel to where you got them from to buy them. Just like in Eve, you will be able to earn isk in ways other than battling. |

my recommendation to you is to only buy skill books from the skill chart and to not but them from the marketplace.
A skillbook will allow you "train up" / "skill up" to level five using your skill points.
1) Purchase skillbook
2) Apply skillbook
3) Upgrade levels

I high and strongly suggest using your character skill sheet from now on to buy and use skill books as the menu allows for it from this page. If a book is learnable it will be a grey book, books you can upgrade skills on will be white colored. books you cant learn would be x'd out. |

So I just upgraded my Shield Upgrades (2x) and it is now just showing the darkened screen with the swirly loading circle... =/ Anyone else had this bug? |
