I realize this may have been posted elsewhere already, but after a cursory use of the Search function, I'm making a thread anyway.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen: Open Beta at the end of this year, with launch likely being next summer to coincide with the next major EVE expansion. It's looking like we're going to have lots of time to work on this. |

Nice, thanks for posting this. It's a relief to hear the game isn't coming out till next summer, more time to test and balance is always nice. |

If you check the new stickies in the Feedback/Suggestions section, you'll see that they'll be doing weekly updates now. I would assume such information will be part of those. |

Well, that's just my assumption of the time frame given that it seems they're matching the major Dust milestones with EVE ones, but I hope so too. |

I guess they realized they weren't ready for a 2012 release. (which they had previously stated in several interviews)
Overall, I'd say it's a good thing. Gives them time to continue to polish things up. TBH, I'm pretty optimistic, given their new timetable, and the progress they've made thus far. |

And given the fact that updates and changes to EVE in this winter/next summer would nicely accompany or start to build better integration of EVE and DUST. This timeframe serves well. |

Yeah. It actually makes even more sense now that they've publicized the planned move to Tranquility, because the Winter expansion for EVE will be releasing the enhancements to the Destroyers to allow them to do Orbital Strikes, which they've already said will be the first means of physical interaction between the two.
Hell, if they are doing a summer 2013 full release, maybe that'll coincide with Incarna finally being finished, and everybody'll be able to chat each other up face to face in stations. One can only hope. |

Open beta = soft launch
Once the game is linked to EVE's servers and we aren't going to get wiped anymore, I'll consider it released. |

Pretty much, but it'll curtail any potential complaints of incompleteness. Besides, they said that only 8 out of the 10 vehicle classes would release with launch, for instance, so changing the launch date to an Open Beta would allow them to get that stuff in and get more testing done without it seeming like they released an incomplete product. |

this is good news. the last i heard they were going for a Fall '12 release (too soon IMO). Now that they're saying Open Beta late '12 and Summer '13 release this makes me feel more at ease. they'll have plenty of time to fine tune the things that are causing us so much grief in game. |

Darn. Video won't play at work so I just ended up reading the comments below the vid. One thing I have never understood is the endless recitation of "Mega fail that this is not on PC." Can someone explain? Are those people just jealous? |

Maybe they've mentioned Summer 2013 elsewhere, but Richard Smith doesn't mention next year at all, only saying "open beta" "towards" and "by" "the end of the year" (2012).
He closes by saying "...which means that anybody with a Playstation 3 can go to the Playstation Store and download Dust 514 completely for free and be playing it on their Playstation 3".
In other words, the game is out by the end of the year, no? With a free to play MMO, how is an 'open beta' not an actual release? Once everyone can play, it's out.
Why would he not say 'the game is out by the end of the year'? Well, describing it as a beta is code for "don't expect a complete or perfect product", which is reasonable enough for this kind of game.
He also says they went to console to reach a new audience, which is what they've said before. That doesn't mean it can't or won't go to other consoles/systems in the future however. |

Endless tears and wankery have been had over this not being on PC. Even though it's been known for a year that it was PS3 only, the tears and wankery refuse to abate. It's pretty. |
