Allright decided to do something good for my fat old lady and spend some spare money on a SSD HDD with 256GB. I had a normal 256GB Sata HDD installed before and i had alot of issues while playing dust 514. Here are my results:
-decreased loading times (overall improved) -mini freezes while playing on a large maps (LAV drivers and dropship pilots know what i mean) -faster spawn (loads your fits much faster) -faster vehicle request -no more blurry textures -latency issues that happends on large maps when you change from 3rd person view to 1st person view on HAV's -grenades actually allways go off and dont end up as dudds
Seriously CCP you depend on the gamers to upgrade their consoles? Not every 1 can afford themself a SSD HDD. The main prblem probably is that you mainly use the PS3's HDD and not the RAM to get the game working. With simple words this game suffers under the same issues like RAGE does. And dont deny it CCP you have on your testing side probably aswell Dev PS3's kits with SSD HDD's installed. |

you mean to say a solid state drive is faster and better than a hard disk drive?????
WHO KNEW?!?!?
Seriously though I didn't know you could install a SSD in a PS3... thanks for telling me now... I guess I'll just stick with my 1TB HDD since I'm going through memory space rather quickly |

its no secret that SSD's are faster then normal HDD'S. But i didnt expected such a drastic improvment on the gameplay. |

I don't remember how much faster one is from the other, but on a D/L game/beta, but I would imagine it should run at least 10 times faster. It would be great if the next gen consoles had SSD's |

Just to clearify the faster spawn and faster vehicle call in. When every 1 else still needs to spawn i allready drive a tank around and im allready at a objective. |

Dont be a ******, CCP don't expect people to upgrade their consoles, if you're going to be an idiot and troll the forums at least put some effort into it. |

ssd drives dont last as long as hdds after using them for a period of time they lose efficiency

if you dont ever erase anything from your hard drive then an ssd is the way to go but constantly erasing and rewriting on them will degrade them over time

Maybe not but you cant deny the fact that alot of problems are solved by using a SSD. CCP should find a way to fix this before final release otherwise players will ditch it cause of stability problems. 1st comes stability, 2nd the gameplay (shoting mechanics, vehicles, weapons etc) and 3rd the whole stuff around it (marketplace, link up to eve etc). I suspect that CCP is using the HDD to cache data instead of using the installed RAM. The normal HDD's are just to slow for this task and this causes mid game mini freezes and a total crash. Both are happening quite often. So a faster HDD (like a SSD) is more capable in doing that task which solves most of the problems that i mentioned. |

It has been talked about for years really. The common conclusion were that an SSD only gave marginal improvements in games due to the PS3's only using the old SATA1 bus.
That was generally true, till now that is. |

For what I heard that SSD has some issues. I'll stick to HDD, they may update similar to Skyrim. |

The 'issues' people talk about are remnants of the first SSD's that didn't have proper TRIM handling for OS'es that don't mark unused space as unused. This is no longer a problem as blocks get moved around automagically to ensure wear leveling.

That was generally true, till now that is. The benefit from SSD's in games like DUST is that you avoid seek time, which is a performance killer. Especially with mega texture maps there's much more random reads than games that have fixed levels and assets that can be arranged to optimise linear reads. |

The reason it's such a difference (I"m guessing) is because: it's 100% on the hard drive, and there seem to be lots of small files (thus seek time is important), and it's probably streaming textures (the texture pop-in you see)
I'm planning to get a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive soon. |

Also, curiously, virtually all of the games they tested were blu-ray based games. I've never understood why they didn't test HD-based games, which should see a much greater boost. |

just wondering, the SSD you have, is it a hybrid or not? wondering if the hybrids have the same performance increase as well. what models are you other SSD people using? what do you like or dont like about them? |

Never saw anywhere that CCP said they want you to upgrade your harddrive...... You did that on your own.
Didn't think it was CCP's responsibility to upgrade & maintain YOUR PS3..... You did that on your own.
Hell, it's not even Sony's job to maintain & upgrade your PS3 after teh warranty expires...... That's all you.
Come to think of it, it's not even CCP's fault you think that they "made" you get a solid state drive....... That's on your parents not teaching yoou personal responsibility |
