Ok, so last build getting run over by the LAV was frustrating, so CCP decided that to try and make this a less frustrating issue by implementing that only the front bumper of the vehicle would have impact on an innocent Merc running in the battle.
This had two main affects -
1. It made driving the LAV into mercs a little less believable as you smash sideways into infantry having no effect.
2. It made it more difficult to run someone over in a LAV.
This in my opinion is what causes game play on modern FPS to be at a standstill on the progression front.
IDEA -
Make the LAV hit detection more believable like it was in the previous builds, so that if the side or rear of the LAV hits you there is some effect, then make some sort of timed action that the merc who is being run over has to react to in order to save himself.
My favorite personal idea is after being hit by the LAV you are given say a second to hit a trigger button lets just say X for easiness. If the merc misses X in the given time frame he is dead, he had his chance to live, he missed it and dies.
If the merc manages to hit X in the said time boosters in his footwear shoot him up vertically as to avoid the impact and having being shot some way into the sky he must then on his way down input a random set of actions(button presses) each pertaining as to how well he managed to land.
If the merc manages to hit the trigger and the sequence he lands on his feet, a little shaken but with no damage ready to fight on, if he manages to hit the trigger button and only two of the sequence on the way down he loses half his HP etc.
You could change the mechanic for tanks where the merc gets stuck underneath and has to wriggle himself out from underneath, or if hit by a dropship he manages to cling on for dear life until the sequence is finished and his inertia dampener can be activated.
I think this sort of reaction style game play would really add to the immersiveness of a FPS game, it already seems like this is sort of touched on when you drop from the sky and activate the inertia dampener, one of the cooler things i have seen in Dust and i think an avenue that should be explored a lot more!
No trolling please i understand this could be difficult to code! |

Some good replies in this thread, and possibly/probably a QTE isnt the way to approach this part of the game, but seems that taking out the side and rear hit detection is just sweeping a problem that could be turned into a a great gameplay mechanic under the carpet.
All ideas and thoughts welcome. We want DUST to be different, we gotta think outside the box, and maybe my QTE idea is still well within the box, but, im sure there is added gameplay ideas for the future to be gained from threads like this!!!
Keep em comin! |
