Just back up man. I run only the HMG, admittedly I do get pwned by a guy with a sparkler who likes to jump like its halo or something. But all in all the HMG does pretty massive damage at medium range.
As a caveat to that though I would like the HMG slowed down and just give me a smidgen more DMG per round 300 rounds should not be a 12 sec belt.

For a multi-barreled rotary cannon the rate of fire is slow, late 1940's models could do 2,000rpm, Vietnam era rotatory 7.62 3,000rpm, M-61 Vulcan cannon 6,000rpm, some Russian modern versions 9-10,000rpm. The Russian one would fire 300 rounds in 1.8seconds. Realistically, at 1500rpm the thing should not overheat, the scrambler pistol is firing faster per barrel. So, I say leave the rate of fire where its at, add more ammo if needed to balance.
Modern rotatory weapons don't use magazines, all the ammo is in a single belt. Warships being an exception, still many thousand rounds per belt. I suggest as a buff to hmg, all ammo is ready to fire. No need to reload, just to not over heat or run out of bullets completely.
The range should be longer as well, maybe have accuracy drop at long range. It should be possible to aim at cluster of enemies at long range to soften them up, or suppress them in to taking cover. This long range inaccuracy could be done with bullet drop and travel time. |

yah the HMG just does not work atm.
it is not a suppression tool, because once you start firing it, people just strafe wiggle and jump, and thats at close to medium range which is supposed to be optimal for DUSTS HMG, never mind that real world miniguns can have an accuracy and range far beyond DUST's HMG 20-30metres
WNUS_30-cal_GAU17
the weapon above is a mounted version so given that its operation from a stable structure it should be more accurate then the DUST HMG, note however its listed maximum effective range of 1000 metres.
I don't think we need this sort of weapon being humped around DUST's battle fields, it would create balancing nightmares, but having the slowest suit lunking around a Proper Suppressive Fire Weapon would be nice.
I live in hope that next build will make my Heavy Babe grin when she gets a nice new suit to show off her form a little, and a nice shiny toy to scare the boys with.======================== |

hmg doesnt do enough damage it does less damage than a SMG and thats not right for a heavy weapon |

I personally think hmg's should stop a player moving, reduce theyre turn speed, but give wtfpwn damage |

ahem.
HMG has been retooled entirely for the next build.
to the point they had to nerf it a little bit because the new system of operation was too good. |

That's encouraging. I don't want my HMG to dominate the battlefield, I just want it to have a purpose. Right now I'm proving more effective with an assault rifle, which a few other heavies on the forums have reported as well. |

no no NO ! ..........well maybe a Breach variant but definitely not for all of them. What you suggest would be a death sentence for the Heavy turning them into a situational niche . |

Ok, Well done, if it was ever an ambition of yours to make a grown man dribble, you just succeeded! Roll on next build! |

I look forward to seeing the results on the next build.
But I don't need a lesson in rotary weapons from whomever that was. This game obviously isn't trying to win realism awards here. So they could slow it down if they wanted to and just give us more DPR. In real life that weapon would spin you around a blow out all of your joints with recoil. All in the you pointed out 1.8 seconds...
However, I firmly agree that the weapon system should have a better range. There have been several occasions where I spot 2-4 cats huddle on a hill side and I cant touch them from 300m... The HMG is a support by fire weapon, it's primary role should be to "soften up" an objective as team mates assault through with there little Assault weapons. |

I agree with everything thats being said. We should be feared at close range or at the very least make other classes rethink they're next move. Instead they have a clear advantage at medium range because HMG doesn't reach and at close range they circle around us and destroy us. In our current build what exactly is our nitch? Easy pray?!? With the size of the maps, and from what I hear are going to be even larger when the game is released, our usefulness is very limited. |

I tank HMG users, but at the same time i know how to be one. Once i can figure out how to unlock the HMG skill (which cant unlock due to a bug on buying/unlocking skill) i will utilize a new tactic. Its really easy to avoid the fire of a HMG, but at the same time very hard. You just gotta approach a HMG user carefully and think logically before attacking, same concept if your the HMG user, you must think "if i try to attack how will they respond?" and act accordingly, you only have a few split seconds though, and remember the HMG user is EXTREMELY hard to take on single handed/mixed in with other enemies as you tend to get tied up in dodging HMG fire/the other players supporting HMG, or just avoiding HMG fire ingeneral (which results in a 1-2second insta kill from what i can tell from my deaths) lol |

I know most of these points have been mentioned, but I feel I need to cleanse my soul by venting my frustration.
1. Hit detection on HMG is pretty poor. Yes I know that the accuracy is around the 60% mark but does that matter against a static target less than 10 metres away?
2. Range. You know the reasons why.
3. I can get a lvl 2 HMG with the same stats as a prototype. I've re read and double and triple checked this, wtf?
4. How is it possible that a HMG is a poor cousin to an assault rifle? I know we're not going for realism here but really?!
5. just because an assault is jumping up and down does NOT mean that my 1500 rpm strafing only hits him with 1 bullet every second I'm firing at him. It just doesn't.
Normally I try to keep my posts more reasoned and balanced but this is something I just plain wanted to rant about. I hope this does get fixed in the next build, until then just try to laugh at me shouting down the mic every time I lose a firefight with an assault rifle. |
