From what I've gathered Eve has various distinctions between its races ; that each race has It's strengths and weaknesses.
I am interested in whether the dropsuites and/or vehicles are any implication of this or is there no significance to be had from it.
For example is there a real significance to the Gallente higher Power Grid capabilities ? Will Amarr be favored for Heavy Armor dropsuites, etc?
I would like to start making these connections earlier rather than later. |

Unless they do a full 180 from their normal practice there will not ever be a permanent affect of your starting faction, bloodline, or class on your character. It affects where you start, what gear you start with, and what skills you start with, nothing more. Every skill and item is still available to you without penalty. |

Dropsuit significance, not race significance. What they're talking about is Amarr dropsuits getting a bonus to, I don't know, armor plates and laser rifles. Or Minmatar dropsuits getting a bonus to HMGs and beard dirt, or whatever. Not the race your character is, the race which built the armor/vehicle you have equipped. |

Oh, my bad. I completely misunderstood. In that case, I'd call it a definite "maybe". There's a vehicle devblog where they talk about vehicles getting role bonuses like in EVE (20% bonus to sight distance per level, can equip cloaking module, etc) but nothing of the sort has been confirmed for dropsuits as far as I know. |

@ Sees-Too-Much I realise that, as a mercenary, all of the skills and even gear is obtainable. What I'm unsure of is race armament pros and cons. There already are differences between races as I've mentioned, but to what extent is the available information reliable .
Having not played any Eve myself, does anyone see any similarities of the races' armaments between these games?
Thanks Fivetimes Infinity. You beat me to it. |

Here's an oversimplified breakdown of how it works in EVE. These are just trends, and all of them have exceptions
Gallente - Armor tank - Drones - Hybrids - Ships are typically brawlers. Close range with drone/blaster damage. - Preferred eWar: sensor dampeners Caldari - Shield tank - Primarily missiles - Occasionally hybrids - Ships typically favor long range and are lightly tanked. - Preferred eWar: ECM Amarr - Mostly armor tank - Occasionally shield tank - Primary weapon lasers - Sometimes uses missiles - Ships are heavily tanked, not exceptionally fast. - Preferred eWar: Tracking disruptors and cap neuts Minmatar - Fairly even split between shield and armor tank - Primary weapon is projectiles (not yet implemented) - Secondary missiles - Ships are very fast and agile, not particularly hardy - Preferred eWar: target painters and stasis webifiers
The analog from EVE turrets to DUST vehicle weapons is pretty straightforward. They all have the same names, even if they don't all function the same way. It's not as obvious with infantry weapons, and might not even exist, but if I were to guess:
AR: autocannon (projectile) Pistol: blaster? (hybrid) Sniper: railgun (hybrid) Swarm: missile Shotgun: blaster? SMG: autocannon HMG: autocannon Forge gun: Laser? Mass driver: artillery? (projectile)
So we can try to use that stuff to get some picture of what areas each faction's suit might focus on. For example the Gallente scout might get shotgun bonuses, where the Cal one would get sniper rifle bonuses. Or not. I don't know. It's all speculation. |

That's handy information! Exactly what I was looking for. This gives me something to compare Dust 514 to. Thanks.
Looks like I'll have to research each race in Eve for CPU / PG comparisons. It's a lot to take wrap my head around. Between Races, vehicle hi power vs low power, shields vs armor, CPU vs PG that's a lot to be aware of. |

If I had a computer I would have already. All the previews of dust have had me looking at Eve ... with open mouth. I donated my gaming laptop. I've come close a few times to either building a new rig (had bought a new CPU and mobo) or buying a new laptop ,but I've never sealed the deal. |

Althought it isnt in yet the suits picked so far are in the mantra of the races.
Amarr are slow heavy and hard to kill.
Minmatar is very flexible and battle adaptive.
Caldari are high tech and jack of all trades.
Gallente emphasize on speed and damage
The tanks also already copy thier parent races.
Gallente favor the armor tanks while Caldari are more perferrable shield tankers.
Scrambler pistol is a laser.
Shotgun is a blaster.
Forge Gun is a bastard of a railgun and blaster. |

My guess for the weapons we currently have are.
AR: Gallente style AR. Could be projectile tech but the fun feels very gallente. Pistol: Amarr gun design so its laser Sniper: Definately caldari design, Railgun Swarm: Caldari design. Missiles. Shotgun: Gallente, Blasters. I REALLY want to see smaller shotguns. Not something so heavy looking. SMG: Minmatar, Autocannon HMG: Minmatar, Autocannon Forge gun: Caldari looking design. Railgun Mass driver: Minmatar design. |

Excellent. Thanks for all the information. It's coming together. I'm sure it'll make sense the more I'm exposed to it.
Here's a side question: Is it more fun playing what class type you think would suite you or in figuring out how to capitalize on the strengths of a race with the chance you find something new and entertaining in a class type you might not prefer? |

That's impossible to answer at this stage. We don't know how skill progression through dropsuits will work. |

like if you go caldari you start out with caldari dropsuit 1.. meaning you dont have to buy the skill book and put the 10k or so sp into training it but the other suits u have to buy and train to 1 which is like 1-2 games.. or if u go amaar u start with heavy suit at 1, i think.. so it has a small meaning but not really much |

The ar is hybrid. A minmatar light weapon would fill squad automatic weapon nicely, longer range then ar with lower dps then ar, maybe hmg damage/overheat per shot with ar rof and smg mag size. call it light machine gun or squad automatic.
The scrambler is an energy weapon but not a laser, it uses laser to make path for electric current that does the damage, so it's more a lightning gun. Eve gives a description of infantry laser weapon, rifle size with fusion reactor on backpack to supply power. Also says it simplifies logistics due to infinite ammo supply, probably a overheat bar like blaster on vehicles, and a refilling capacitor depleted by firing. |
