I already posted this in the feedback section as this is a simple copy & paste. I'm just curious to know everyone's opinions on this subject in the general section...

Currently its too easy to accidentally INSTANTLY delete a character, especially if a person is forced to endure a 5th consecutive game/system restart due to the bugged beta & angrily/blindly powers through the series of mulitple accept/start/select screens. The only 2 buttons (on the Dual Shock 3 controller) used to get from the 1st screen to one's personal quarters are the "X" button & the "Start" button. However directly in between those two buttons is the "Square" button. This makes it extremely easy to accidentally delete a character when powering through a ridiculous number of screens without looking as I have done. I accept that the loss of my character is my fault. However I do have a problem with there being "no" failsafes to instantly deleting a character, especially when this game is connected to EVE & made by the same people that made EVE and EVE has incorporated a failsafe to instant character deletions called "Biomassing".

Not being an EVE player and stumbling around on the forums & internet I found that EVE's "Biomassing" requires 10hrs to pass before the actual character deletion can be performed. I actually found it quite interesting how CCP legitimizes character deletions by classifying as it a failure in the cloning process. So it baffles me as to why CCP would remove or not include such an ingenous feature from such an EVE-connected game as DUST 514.

Possible Solutions to help prevent accidental character deletions that I've stolen from other posts/games:
1). Incorporate EVE's "Biomassing" 10hr delay, One Universe One War right? Both revolve around clones why not.
2). Incorporate Two Worlds 2 process in which a countdown timer causes a character deletion if not stopped.
3). Require the "Square Button" to be held for 5 seconds before an instant character deletion is performed.
4). Require the name of the character that you want deleted to be spelled out.
5). Enter a mini-game in which you literally have to kill your character's alpha/prime/original cloning subject.

In conclusion, if there is no incorporation of any type of failsafes for instant character deletions, I will have no desire to play this game. Whats the point of playing a game that allows/requires you to put so much time in aquiring significant skills/abilities/gear/vehicles if it can so easily be "accidentally" removed/deleted "instantly". Currently I have no further interest in playing this beta until the next build/version arrives or a special version item prize is offered. Good Luck to all your Mercenaries still fighting. Don't make the same mistake I did as it takes a lot out of you.

Yes I agree I lostt my character last build.

This time I put my main character as my 3 slot.

Good thing too because I already lost my 1st slot character again.

And now I can't sign in to the forums with that email for some reason. Ccp is trying to figure out why but nothing yet

My suggestion is to have to type the character name in to delete it.

Why would you move this to the Feeback section when in the opening statement of this post I specifically stated that I already made a post in the Feedback section & wanted to know the thoughts of those that read posts in the General section. Not only would this post have informed those that only read posts in the General section that weren't aware of this problem but it would have allowed them to see alternative solutions to the problem that other players have come up with until an actual failsafe against character deletions was implented in addition to proving the type of failsafes that the community actually prefer be implemented.

Please move this post back to the General section where it was actually intended to be. This post was meant for the community/gamers that only view posts in the General section, not for the devs, no offense.

That is an ingenious idea as far as preventing your character from being lost goes. However that is a bit of a problem for forum posting. I was wonderinig how the website decided which character to use for forum posting. Seems like their is no choice and that the Slot 1 Character is only allowed to be represented for forum posting.

I moved here and closed the other one due to the forum rule #14
 Redundant threads will be deleted.

As a courtesy to others before beginning a new thread, please look to see if an active thread on that topic has already been established. If so, place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forum needlessly and many good ideas may be lost. Keep discussions about one topic to one thread only.

This one seems more active so I keep this one. Thi section it's not dev-only but it's a section constantly monitored by them. If we want some improvement in a particular aspect, this is the appropriate section.

The speed & overall quickness and effeciency in which you operate at is scary, so much so that I don't think that you are even human. I think you are a robot... a robot unicorn... with magical powers. Speaking of magical powers. I appreciate your help & will now not be so quick to rush through menus enraged by constant restarts as an inexperience gamer/unofficial beta tester. May your magical rainbow journeys never end, Great Magical Unicorn. ;)

I love ideas 1 and 4. Either one would be great.
The 5th one seems a bit excessive...

Ideas 1 & 4 should do the trick nicely.
Idea 5 is amusing but likely a bit much to actually put dev resources into. :)

Purchased new Merc Pack, assigned goods (turns out if you have several to assign they all go to one char when assigned with no option to spread them out
). So now my first character has all three of my Merc Pack promotional items
Please CCP can we have a system where accidentally hitting the button adjacent to X doesn't delete your characters so easily?

 Cheers,
 Cross

ps ~ Yes I know it's beta, yes I know they're reassigned to the pool after wipe, etc. but I'd still like this feature for the live game.
Also it would be nice if we could assign single items rather than all of an item type when we're linking gear to a merc.

You appear as the Grim Reaper, and you walk over to your character in his Merc Quarters.
He will be doing various things, but once you slash him with your scythe, you permanently delete your character.
