I have some militia dropships and I'm trying to practice flying them and they won't ever take off. I can rotate it, and the thrusters move, but holding L1 doesn't make them lift off. I even bumped it with an LAV in case it was stuck on the ground and it still wouldn't take off.
Do I need some skill to actually take off in a militia dropship or something? |

Issue might be that there is couple presets for aerialvehicle controlls.
Go to neocom>system>options under controller tab aerialvehicle section and look chat preset you got. It should display your current key mapping on the right-hand side pane as a image of the controller. |

Odd. my post vanished! Anyway, DropShip Flight School referenced above: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=34362&find=unread
It's a conceptual how-to approach once you're airborne.
I just logged in to test dropships as I've never flown one. I called one in, and entered. L1 did provide me lift. I was able to (awkwardly) circle the map twice beforing being shot down. Surely he could see I had the white flag of "I don't know wtf I'm doing so please don't hurt me" flying. I did see a cool "you are being targetted" type display. That was interesting.
Do check your flight control layout as noted in the previous post as your layout may not be on default for some reason.
I will add that when I did try to use a DropShip my first week of Dust. I entered and it would NOT lift off to save my life. Granted I had no friggin clue what I was doing, but I know I pressed every button on the controller at least 3x each. It did SEEM to want to lift off, as if gave a slight bucking, but never took to the air. Perhaps it was lodged on ground geometry somehow. Perhaps that's what's going on? Iderno. But THIS time, yes, I was able to lift off with the L1 button.
Good luck.
p.s. It does take quite a bit of stamina to jump. ;)
*EDIT* Confirm you're in pilot's seat? ^ button to cycle through? Just a thought. Also, I have no flight skills. At least none that I remember training. Skillbooks OR talent. ha! |

I went to options and changed and then reset it to default aerial vehicle controls and now it seems to be working.
There must have been a bug that somehow unassigned my "thrust" button or something. Or it could have been a coincidence that it started working after that. Who knows.
So I finally got to practice flying again. It's really fun, but it definitely takes practice. |

So I finally got to practice flying again. It's really fun, but it definitely takes practice. Yeah, I had a guy in my squad who had that same issue. I'll be sure to tell him that worked for you. Funny enough, I can now fly them because they set 'inverted' pitch to default, while my settings were still set to inverted, meaning that pushing forward on the stick would make my pitch up, completely throwing me off and landing me in the dirt. I actually recently learned how to fly them after turning off that setting during the one Corp battle I managed to get into, wherein and enemy called down a dropship shortly before getting gunned down by my squad, at which point I hacked it to use it for practice, and was pleasantly surprised at how well the new mechanics work once you get used to them. Can't wait to fly the things on larger scale maps, and I hope we get larger ones that can carry more soldiers at some point. |

Just started flying tonight as well. Would definitely love to fly them over a greater range, and I imagine we'll eventually get some very cool dedicated variations, such as one with a much greater passenger capacity, and with any luck, a full on gunship. While it would be horribly OP to give the pilot some lock on missiles, it would be a nice touch ;) |

UPDATE: I've tried various things and they seem to help.
The other day, I plugged my DS3 in via USB and it worked after that.
That didn't seem to work today, though, so I tried a few other things. I was just watching Crunchyroll on my PS3, so I tried turning the remote control off (which is always controller 7) and it started working. I did this in the middle of battle and it started working right away.
They keyboard still works every time I've tried it, though. So it's definitely some weird control-related bug.
So: try plugging in your DS3 try turning off/on your DS3 try turning off the bluetooth remote if you have one (just like you turn off a DS3, hold PS button->turn off controller) |
