I've been an EVE player for 3 years, and a Dust player since June.
----- Rain drops slide down the shoulder of my armor, lighting is striking on the energy production plant in the background. Slowly we advance through the tar and smoke left behind by the chemical attack, slowly but surely. Openly advancing one of our tanks gets a look at the Command Center in the sight of the advancing army, a trap! Out of no where planetary installations drop from the sky and pop up out of the ground and place the entire field into a death trap with heated Plasma and large explosives.
We were caught of guard while advancing, believing we had done eradication to any enemy inside the area with our chemical weapons, but we were surely mistaken. I look over my shoulder, now having dust piling up from an exploding missile and see my commander waving his hand for us to advance across the open field. I look to the sky and see Drop-ships and Fighters blocking out the heavens with AA Missiles. Our division of tanks arrives just in time to take out a few installations. As it seems the enemy was retreating and we were going to capture the CC, my radiation detector went off the charts and i look up, a blast of heat that rivaled the blue star in brightness was coming straight down to the battlefield. Fighters and ships quickly flew away to avoid the soaring heat and devastation to come.
Lo and behold the ships were melting, troops with their hands on their heads to take off the melting plastic and metal, but only to die in seconds of doing so. The dark battlefield was now lit up with a red glow and a large plume going up into the clouds. We were defeated.
* meanwhile in space *
" Well done comrades, we have disabled their ground forces, begin the siege of the Station. Dreadnoughts be prepared to fire! "
Hundreds of ships clutter around the lone station with 6 dreadnoughts placed carefully around it. As the Amarrian Dreadnoughts were about to open fire and destroy the station in the name of their faith thousands of Minmatar ships cluttered the area and released hell at close range. The Amarrian Command ship was destroyed in seconds by the number of Battleships unleashing their weapons on its position.
The battle was not lost, not in the sky. Although half the planet was destroyed, now left in ruin, the battle was gained. Ships went down to the living area of the planet to force the locals to surrender to the Republic. As the ships landed, up in the Command Ship the Minmatar Commander said two words, " Convert This " ----- |

"Sir this just came in, an unidentified mercenary force has disabled planetary comms for this system!" The Admiral looked over at the system read out, hoping for any signs of other ships nearby. The Local Comms screen was blank, no indicators flashing, no identity scans, no affiliations, the screen proclaimed virgin space, not even a planet or sun.
Warily the second in command looked out on the planet below them, from here it looks peaceful, benign. "Get me a goddamn scan on all local bodies!!", growled the Admiral, "Patch me thru to system admin on a secure channel, find out whats happened to system comms." A barely perceptible pause, as he collected his thoughts, "Post a recall of company mining ops, and get Sec. to start mobilising some sort of net ...NOW!"
Uniformed bodies, began to stir in the dim light of the bridge. The spell broken, training restored clarity.
58 thousand kilometres away, the black ops ship kept its passive scanners running, the encrypted comms from the second orbital body from this systems sun sporadically buzzed new info onto this ships bridge, but the real entertainment was coming from the slowly assembling fleet almost within sighting distance. The pilot, enmeshed as he was into the ships systems, spared a chuckle. Company Dusters had already hacked their entire comms system, and their security data bases prior to shutting the systems planet based comms arrays down. The fools were blindly feeding him their fleet designations and barge "safe routes".
It was truely a pity to leave the mercs to their 'prize', there really wasn't a movement within the company to overthrow management....

I stood staring at the horizon. What I saw surprised me little. I looked at my comrades on either side of me.
I spoke one word.
"HAVs."
12 of them came roaring towards us. One man put up his weapon. I pushed it down.
"We cannot do anything. This is our fate until the next patch."
On my left, one of my fellow mercenaries angrily tore apart his Prototype Swarm Launcher and threw it in the mud.
"Curse you, AV nerf!"
I looked to my second in command.
"What do you think we should do?"
He did not reply.
Angrily I rapped on his visor.
"Templar 4, do you hear me?!"
One of the sergeants sent him a TACNET message.
"Sir, he froze out. Must be Sleeper tech malfunctioning. Whose idea was it to label the game we are in the exact number that gives us deadly seizures anyways?!"
I looked back to the horizon. The HAVs were halfway to us. Another 4 minutes and they wouls be on top of us.
"Where is Templar 7?" I mused.
"Oh, he never joined us this op. when we went to deploy, all his fittings were 'INVALID'. He sent a request to hogher command to fix the bug but they replied they were more interested in R&D on new weapons and equipment for us."
Another day in the life of a merc, I thought. Join the army, they said. Visit fantastic places, they said. Become immortal, they said. He should have read the fine print. THAT said "May cause headaches, uncontrollable seizures and/or complete neural hardlockin."
The HAVs were almost on top of them.
"Should we fire, sir?"
"No! Don't you know the new HAV models are literally invincible?"
"No, sir, well, I mean- I-"
"DON'T YOU GET IT? INFANTRY ARE PRACTICALLY USELESS THIS BUILD! WE ARE ALL SCREWED!"
Taking a deep breath, I composed myself.
"But we will still fight like men. Yes! There is a chance! Maybe id we get enough WP we can call in an OB! Here come the HAV's now! Fire! Fire!"
The platoon lit up like a fireworks display. Everywhere, Swarm Launchers and Forge Guns shooting...
But they were promptly extinguished as the entire enemy team of HAVs raped them horribly within the first 3 seconds of the fight. |
