This has got to be the dumbest thing a developer/gaming company could do. I can hear how the convo went:
Game producer "how can we make sure even an entry level player has to spend some money"
Dev "Well we could make them have to pay for basic voice chat. That way everyone who plays will spend at least SOME cash"
The reality is that 99 percent of ur beta testers are 14yr olds w no credit card, the adults find it insulting, and the end result is absolutely NO communication in the field. So most CoD players, MAG crossovers etc will bail on ur game pretty quickly, and the few who remain won't justify the expense of developing it. Charging real cash for basic voice functionality is moronic, short-sighted and greedy.
Yep, its a SPAM game allright....

For the 514th time....
The UVT is for the following: -Voice communication in local chat -Creating a custom voice channel. -Voice communication with Eve players.

Call me a jerk, but as an adult with a credit card, I'm kind of glad this other group has a barrier to entry for voice chat.
I stopped playing CoD online when I couldn't stomach the cracking voices spouting racial slurs any more. DUST has been refreshing.

Nah, you cant tell them the simple truth, As they have ignored it before, they will ignore it again. Just sedate them with "Its beta and subject to change". |

I agree. There is a point to paying for the voice in non-essencial channels. I too cannot stand constant cussing and racial slurs every few seconds. |

When you're out of a match, yeah. When you're in a match, you'll be able to use voice chat. That is completely fine. |

I have chat ON . There is never a soul making a sound in a match. No communication whatsoever. Once in a while someone will have vox enabled, and thats less than 5 percent of the matches I have been in so far. For a "free" function, its pretty unused. I bought the stupid augmentation and have been yelling my head off and still no one responds. Its cearly either not free, not useable, broken or so obscure no one from the world of PS3 can find it.
You can keep your hyper-complex little skill and weapons trees. Thats what killed MAG and it will kill this game too. Yeah yeah, all you EVE players are sooo smart to be able to use them. But the truth is its too freakin boring! My IQ is 157 but even I think its boring, must not have the soul of an accountant like you folks.
And I dont care if there are other threads on this subject - its clearly buried in the thousands of other reasonable complaints about this sad little game. I just wondered if anyone else thinks its stupid. The fact that I cant find one other person on a team with vox most of the time tells me it is. |

So you have to pay some aurum for an implant....woohoo. EvE voice chat used to not be free at all. We had to pay extra for it as subscribers. It's now included though since EvE is pay to play. You get a free to play game. Let me say that again....Free to Play. You don't have to spend 60 bucks buying the game and another 40 per expansion, map pack etc. At most the only thing you have to do is download it and pay a tiny bit of real money to buy a few things. The aurum bought stuff beyond the UVT is all well and good. But not like it's required. And I'm sure once the market gets up and running, people will be buying UVTs to sell on the market for isk. |

Ok, I'm going to say this politely without going into a rant like I did yesterday with some poor new guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time....... the Uvt's are for long distance chat to other star systems/planets, NOT for team/squad chat. You can chat to your squad/team in match for free, it only costs for long distance. Eve has free long distance chat because they have the 15/month subscription, dust 514 does not require such subscription .......therefore they have to charge for certain things, but one more time.............uvts are not for squad/team chat.....they are for ling distance
Edit: also, corporations will be able to purchase uvts that cover the whole corp, and uvts will also be available for isk (increased) |

The reason noone uses voice is either they don't know about it at all, don't know about pushtotalk, or gave up on it because they didn't know about the above. Also, who's going to buy UVTs when there's Teamspeak, Mumble, Skype, Steam, I can go on.
And also, on the topic of the OP: Try a tad less venom in your written word, it would garner more sympathy than the parade of people who have posted just to say good riddance. And people are not likely to respond to someone over the chat channels if he is yelling his head off. Or in the team channel. |

Hey CCP, you should advertise this much more. It is likely in the reading somewhere but most FPS players don't read instructions =) I include myself in this group. |

It just needs a pricing rework, having one time purchases for specific channels is the best way to deal with it.
Mavado made a post on this and it was a perfect suggestion imo, i cba to find the thread atm, but its out there.

facepalm
dude, it's for custom chat channels
and it might be possible someday to buy it for x amount of time for the channel itself.
It's not really a big deal cause basic chats would be squad and Team, and that's free.
just activate the voice channel you want. |

once again no directions. just random children on here ranting with no thought other than the initial one. for the record I do know how to activate the chat, but wanted to know if there was actually going to be an intelligent response or one lacking a degree of impulse responses.
thanks for clarifying. |

Go to options. Turn ON Voicechat. Turn OFF Push to talk. Plug in USB Headset.
Also, UVT is for long distance. If you are talking long distance, you either know them (and can Skype or Steam them for free) or they are a corp mate (so you will just use the corp Teamspeak server.)
Also, just because someone has a post below you doesn't mean they are talking to you. Doesn't even mean they scrolled down far enough to read your post before posting. |

Wow you have157 iq but cant find a way to talk to others. what a waste of brain cells!!! you clearly need to go play a game where all the steps are pointed, explained in a very dumbed down way and someone is holding your hand while going through the process. go away now you shall not be missed! |
