Before this update, the only real enjoyable elements of DUST514 were the RPG elements - skills and classes and all that. In my opinion at least.
I had to sort of "force" myself to enjoy the shooter aspects of the game - Not in a good way. In Call of Duty or Battlefield you sort of just go for it and the game is fun right off the bat (It's hard to explain but hopefully you get what I mean.)
This is no longer the case anymore. Playing the actual GAME part of the game became much more enjoyable and immersive since the last patch, primarily for me due to:
-Decreased amount of ISK you get from battles, making it harder to purchase things like the Charge Sniper Rifle in ridiculous bulk. It actually means something when you die, because you know you can only respawn 6 or so more times rather than 50. -MUCH more tightened gameplay mechanics (most notably things like being able to go straight into sprint while crouching, being able to fire straight from sprint, the sniper rifle scope sway between shots being removed, decreased auto-aim, etc.) -graphical enhancements. The Merc Quarter looks fvcking SEXY now (dem light effects), as well as the new maps having their own personality, like the map with the red hue applied onto it and the map with the green regions inside it, -Salvage system (Adds a welcome element of unpredictability to every battle)
I'm in the PlanetSide 2 beta, and I'm also playing Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders 2 and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron but I find myself playing DUST514 the most out of any of them. It's pretty cool. Really, the only thing that still bothers me personally are the absurd ground vehicle controls (especially the LAV, holy christ)
EDIT: There are still a ridiculous amount of bugs present though, don't get me wrong. seeing "INVALID FITTING" for every class including the starter classes when trying to spawn in after spending 10 minutes trying to find a match because the matchmaking system kept trying to slot me into full games is infuriating, not to mention the game straight out crashing when the PS3 can't handle the amount of stuff that's going on on screen. |
