So, things I've always wanted to see in an FPS game that, if integrated into the EVE universe, would have me addicted for life. seriously. Id pay for yearly subscriptions at a time.
1) Visor/Helmet upgrades, streaming battlefield information based on orbiting ships ability to transmit that information to units capable of receiving this information in the field. Think DUST unit and EVE ship upgrades to be capable of different types of communication with each other, from extravisible-spectrum details to 'augmented reality' overlays displaying positions of enemy units and equipment. Potential augmented audio for hearing units sneaking up on you. Potential for reception of voice & text based communication from EVE ships close/powerful enough to communicate.
2) Orbital battlefield vision in EVE ships, as well as orbital map vision available to capable orbiting ships; the ability for EVE players to exercise orbital command & control elements via DUST on screen text window and headset communication. Sitting in orbit scrolling through players HUD's or viewing them all at once on a big screen with a space view of the battle map indicating locations that are visible with the current EVE ship upgrades. Necessity for new class of EVE ships based around communications and support for DUST units; an offshoot of current ECM ships.
3) Orbital drop caches performed at a distance from the planet, protected by friendly space units until the cache is close enough to enter the atmosphere. Ability to damage % of contained & fragile items in space battle. % of drops miss destination and have % damage to cargo on impact. or just fire it into the ground from a space cannon and let the DUST players dig it out. Potentially combined with orbital strikes as an orbital kinetic weapon. Drop caches can be fired from the hull with a % accuracy to even hit the battlefield, much less be accurate down to the meter. Smart-caches can be guided taking drone bay space and flown to the field, while having to incur the wrath of space blasting as it tries to enter the atmosphere, the comm-blackout of atmosphere entry, and the necessity to be flown and landed to site via space pilot control, or DUST ground unit assumption of control, if the unit has sufficient ECM technology on the ground.
4) ECM: the ability to scramble the advanced HUD, or even the basic HUD of ground units. Including the headset (think scrambled hud & garbled audio; and the ability for DUST units to completely disable scrambled HUD and fly by the seat of their pants trying to reboot their HUD until the electronics are back online & communications can be re-established). Potential ultra-upgrades to DUST units might involve incredibly advanced visor/HUD displays that would not be overlays but camera/screen type units that would go almost completely dark allowing almost no visibility but
5) ECCM: TRANSEC & COMSEC; upgrades to frequency hop & encrypt transmissions to prevent ECM, as well as hacking the other teams ECM to introduce lag or false information on player & orbiting HUDs. Potentially have different types of ECCM that affect specific units; eg DUST units see orbital ship message about incoming drop cache, but orbiting control sees no message on screen and shows no text-chat log of said message. potential ECCM module for EVE ships or DUST units to identify message as forgery/injection attack. If augmented audio is embedded into DUST equipment, falsely augmenting sounds or playing randomly scrambled game sounds to the DUST players.
6) DUST unit implants & upgrades. A counter to central control is to provide players with implants to themselves to make DUST players better warriors... increases to perception (outlining screen objects, slight fisheye for peripheral vision) or hearing upgrades (visual cues to mark close in game sounds, or volume adjust those sounds, footsteps etc.); health and stamina bonuses... if ECM & ECCM are a centrally controlled network, think upgrades that would make a p2p network more efficient. I would think the Caldari would run everything from space with ECM, where the Minmatar would have more of an implant approach. But that's just me.
ECM & ECCM can be proximity to on ground repeaters (more powerful ones dropped as large items or less powerful ones thrown like grenades), and/or pushed from powerful enough orbiting ships at an expense to CPU and capacitor charge. Obviously all the comms stuff would require CPU & active capacitor use. And the best part is, due to the 'physics' involved, you blame any lag on "atmospheric interference". After all, the ECM interactivity isn't designed to be the center of attention on the battlefield, simply enhance it when its available. Although, just like computers in the present, after we begin offloading our human abilities to them, they start to become more and more ubiquitous and irreplaceable. I guess it depends on the type of units people would produce; the central command and communication route, or the implant & p2p route. Implants also have the potential to be biological and thus resistant to electronic ECM/ECCM.
I think these elements would make the FPS and C&C elements WAY more immersive, the kind of immersive that everyone was amazed by in metal gear solid; Naomi Hunter stimulating nanotech in your arm after being tortured by Ocelot, or psycho mantis moving your ps controller and reading your memory card. I understand it has to be a nightmare to balance such a huge game, but please, please, please; if there is to be such a bad ass game, continue making it even more bad ass. |
