When the game comes out, everyone is going to be scrambling to hit their enemies with mercs, killing each other, and generally having fun. I do know however that we will have a gun on the planet to shoot at ships though. I want to know what happens in the beginning, when nobody has placed those on their planet, are we going to be at the mercy of the pilots in space in the beginning? How is it going to be seeded in the universe? Who produces it? Pilots? Mercs? Both? I understand EVEs' pilots producing things, but how about our mercs? In the beginning, we are all just going to be ground pounders with our militia gear or whatever we can afford. No commander is going to have the skills required to place or operate one. It seems, in a case like that, our mercs are literally going to be rolling undefended from the fire in the sky. I know that every person who plays EVE is going to start showering their Dust Bunny, and his corp with a large trust fund, to be used however they see fit. This is evened out by the very presence of skill points because I can buy all of the weapons, vehicles, and suits I want, but it won't mean a thing if I can't tell what the little red button on the side of it does. All this is different than a structure like an orbital cannon though. Can I drop one on a planet that I feel needs it whenever I have access to the funds? Would it require Dust mercs to have a certain skill to operate it? Does it immediately belong to my defenders, or do they have to secure in the same way we secure the CRUs or the anti-MCC cannons? Will it require coordination between a pilot engaged in battle above, and a trooper on the ground, or does it auto target the biggest thing around? I imagine it will require teamwork simply because multiple videos show a Merc and a Capsuleer in conversation, along with active engagements between the opposing factions in space occurring. I want to hear what everyone has to th Any ideas or speculation? Even a Dev or GM lightening our uneasiness with defenselessness? |

Not all features will be enabled at launch, player made items and structures will be one, nul sec another. The lowsec combat at launch may have batteries already there, as the planets are owned by the npc empires. By the time the nullsec stuff is added, people will have skills, and seeding skyfire will probably be before allowing mercs in nullsec. |
