put points into sniper operation, light weapon capacity, and get far away from the battle as you deem safe. make sure you have a good squad to back you up as well.

Okay help me out so I am in current skills I see nothing for Sniper Rifles. So I go to All Skills and from there what would I choose to enable Sniper Rifles?
There is Sniper Rifle Operation and Sniper Rifle Proficiency? |

Yes there is. There may be a requirement also, for Weapon Usage. Once you have that, get Sniper Rifle Operation to 5 first, which unlocks the best Snipers, and access to Sniper Proficiency. After those, go for Light Weapon skills. |

Sniper rifle operation. After you get operation to level 5 you can begin skilling proficiency. Skill up weapons to level 5 and sniper skills... |

It depends on how you're going to play.
If it's only sniper to the exclusion of everything else get sniper operation to level 5 first(25% damage bonus to sniper rifles - requires weaponry 1 but everybody gets it initially as far as I'm aware), sniper proficiency to level 1(unlocks prototype sniper rifles - not that you're likely to use them with the current pricing), then weaponry to level 5(15% damage bonus to all light weapons). I would go with a scout suit for added mobility(don't stay in one place too long or you will be hunted) and lowest signature but the trade off is that you will die easily when hit(you are a one hit kill for other snipers and easy prey for anyone who can get close).
If you're going to play with other weapons do weaponry first(put one level into snipers to unlock the charge sniper rifle) then operations and proficiency. I would go with the assault suit to save you from having to level up 2 suits at the same time(you should be able to take one hit from another sniper - get into a run asap any direction so they can't get the second shot off).
I don't recommend the logistics suit due to having no sidearm or the heavy suit due to being slow and having the highest signature.
You will want to put points into the passive skills that decrease CPU/PG usage(one of the light weapon skills - Light Weapon Upgrades iirc) or increase overall CPU/PG(can't remember what they are - mechanics and engineering?).
You will want to get dropsuit command to level 5(so enemies can't see you as easily) and sensor upgrades to level 5(so you can see enemies easier) at some point.
Light weapon sharpshooter might be useful but I've never needed more range on any sniper rifle and you won't need light weapon capacity if you carry a nanohive. |

Then get out there and snipe
To be honest, getting a good start in any role in dust doesn't take much isk or skill points
The militia gear is good enough for you to get a sense of whether the particular combat style is for you
I pack a drop uplink on my sniper in order to establish a reliable reinforcement spot for my team
During ambush rounds I spawn in and get the heck out of dodge. I drop the uplink close to where I consider my teams 'base ' or foundation of thrust
Like, if our combat effort is a triangle on the map then the target is at the apex and my uplink should help establish the base
Then I find good hi ground from which to find targets of opportunity
Choice of perch is crucial
Good cover with wide view angle helps. Do not fire off more than a magazine without moving toa new spot
It's not the guys you can see that will kill you. Works both ways

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a nice tree view that showed what skills unlock what weapons and what skills unlock each other in an easy to navigate UI instead of a gaint plain impossible to read without show info and memoring every single skill tree and use.
They could at least make the skills in a semi tree view so skill progression can make sence. Add more colors make it clear when you can buy a skill and when you can level it up. So on. Show more information on what tgey unlock. Maybe when you highlight a skill a tool tip could show the module icons for what it unlocks. |
