Since this game will need people to purchase AUR to survive I think some changes need to be made to encourage more AUR purchases. As it stands now there is little incentive to buy a dropsuit with AUR when you're just going to run through a bunch of suits in a match unless you're really good.
My suggestion is pretty simple. Instead of having AUR suits and ISK suits, create items bought with AUR that change the appearance of all suits in a particular category permanently. If its technically feasable allowing the player to pick a primary and secondary color would be cool, or pick from preset color schemes like what the AUR suits have now will work.
As I said, as it stands buying AUR suits is pretty pointless, they're just different colored base suits for each tier. Instead allowing modifying the appearance of all suits bought would in my opinion encourage more AUR buying. |

I'd recommend it be only applicable to a specific dropsuit. But yeah, making new dropsuits for a specific skin is a really terrible way to approach cosmetic stuff. Permanent skin customization for suits, allowing a vast array of skin choices and other cosmetic changes to dropsuits and vehicles, is the way to get people spending their AUR.
That plus the skill boosters, anyway. |

As well, with permanent cosmetic changes you could charge MUCH higher prices.
As it stands now, you could buy 100 red dropsuits for 4 Aurum each, totaling 400 Aurum, and once you go through them you need to spend more Aurum just to get more red dropsuits. It discourages people from buying many at all.
However, if you charged say 800 Aurum up front for red paint, you've just guaranteed people have paid your price for 200 red dropsuits, even if they don't use that many, on the basis that if they need a 101st, 201st, or even 1000th red dropsuit, they don't need to spend any extra cash. That would encourage more people to put real money into the game. |

Yeah whether its a permanent mod to one suit or to a category can be worked out by CCP, either way what it is now needs to change. I just don't think real money purchases should be so disposable as they are now. |

Are you sure you wouldn't rather be selling all the gear yourself? By the way, just where did you get that meta level 15 assault rifle?
All kidding aside, I think a little of both is good. Does not have to be one way or the other. Yep, most of the drop suits that are available for AUR just look different. So are worth purchasing if you are into that. But some have better stats...
Also players can re-sell all AUR purchaed items on the market for ISK. This will encourage market manipulation, investing, etc. Maybe a desperat player in need of some quick ISK will buy a bunch of items for AUR and try to sell them for ISK. I spend a few AUR just to get a module so that I can fit a different weapon, now and then.
But yes, there is a lot that can be done with making interesting things for sale for ISK without making the game unbalanced. custom paint job being one. |

A red drop suit? You might think it looks cool, but you might as well have a flag above your head saying "I'm here, please shoot me!". All black is the smart move. |

Depending of the time of day/weather on a map a black dropsuit is just as much as a target as a red one. Just remember last build and how much the people with the prototype suits stuck out, it was like wearing a really expensive bullet magnet. In this newest build that is going to be even more of an issue and at 225k isk for a proto-logi suit I don't think many people are going to be rocking the black suits. (Yes I know that other prototype suits are less expensive but it was an example)
Really though the current crop of AUR variants is fine. They have the same stats as other things, which keeps them from creating a pay to play atmosphere, but will encourage people who like wasting cash to start buying them. Who cares if it makes them more bullet friendly, they are already a bit on the dumb side for spending real cash on in game items. Its like buying clothes or furniture in PS Home, stupid and indicative of a lack of financial planning. |

In case you were directing any of that negativity directly at me, I'll let you now I just picked the color red as an example. Since I haven't put any Aurum into the game I don't even know if any of the dropsuits are red.

CCP shouldn't be trying to convince "dumb" people "who like wasting cash" to purchase Aurum, because those people are going to do it anyway. CCP needs to find a way to encourage more people, and potentially everyone, to actually buy some Aurum. And right now, only having expendable equipment available for that Aurum is appealing to very few people besides those "dumb" people "who like wasting cash" anyway. |

Colour of suits doesn't matter for anyone except people sniping at long range. Anyone on the ground is going to have a read arrow above their head. Black, red, pink, camouflage, it's all the same when they're detected by sensors.

Says the guy who has more-than-likely spent thousands of dollars on impractical luxury items through the course of his life, including of course a PS3 with games and peripherals for it. But yes, let us look down our nose and sneer at these people who waste their money differently than how we waste our own money. |

I'm In complete agreement with this. There is also the prospect of charging alliances/corps (just the alliance/corp leaders, who can procure the funds from their members, or on their own) to put their logos on their dropsuits.
I can imagine my corp logo on my right shoulder, and my alliance logo on my left, or on my chest.
Allowing for cosmetic customization could be a huge money maker for CCP.
but first I'd like to stop freezing, and start making more ISK, be it through the marketplace, or borrowing from other players, etc.
I would assume that is part of the reason we are making so little ISK right now, they are preparing for selling on the marketplace. |

Orin slapping custom logos on stuff is a great idea!
When the game launches I'd like to be able to purchase some AUR to support the game and developer without feeling like it was wasted, and at this point only skill boosters seem worth while. |

LOGOS!!!! CUstom logos, should be a 1 time purchase (but big cost) per logo, and then you can get a clan/alliance tag/ticker or image even posted up on the side of tanks and dropships...
But this stuff shouldnt take priority, however it would be smart for CCP on an economical stand point to get this in as soon as there are functioning Corp battles and the game is launched. **** id eat up clan related cosmetic stuff so quickly, also dropsuit cosmetics (if 1 time purchase) i probably would too after a while, but tbh i am skeptical on dropsuits.
Cant have the colours obnoxious tbh, it ruins the vibe and 'real'ness of the game, indeed im sure thats why CCP hasnt done something similiar for Eve.

If they limited the available color palette custom suits could be good, I understand your concern about people getting ridiculous with their choices and ruining the look and feel. However if CCP is careful with the available color choices they could off customization without winding up with hot pink mercs taking you out of the game.
And you have to admit, along with the corp logos being able to have everyone in your corp color their suits and vehicles in chosen corp colors would be cool. |

i do like the neon Green color tho but yes no need for hot pink
as for the OP and suggestions i really like the idea.
maybe having a tri color or quad color scheme for dropsuits. this would encourage more purchases. and yes 400-800 for each color in the scheme
hopefully this come about
because i did buy the Merc Pack and well the booster is about all i'm spending the Aurum on anymore.
was a hack mod for a bit at 3 AUR. but decide meh booster is better money spent due to long term game impact |

I also bought the merc pack, but have recklessly spent the AUR because as soon as they do character wipes they give it all back and we have at least 2 more of those before retail release. So I'm basically playing with house money. |
