When I saw your title I wanted to log in a bash you for requesting either A) an old-school quake weapon that doesn't really fit with the game or B) A sniper rifle ala unreal tournament that just replicates something we already have in a way that doesn't really make sense.
That said however I really like this idea. We do lack some sort of short range wide area attack weapon for the heavy plus I like the new way of providing it. It would be neat if this weapon could also send its charge a short distance along a metal surface so that if a merc is standing on a metal floor and you fire this weapon at it it would hit him even if he was around the corner from you. Of course, using this added mechanic, if you and/or your buddies were standing on the same metal plate you'd be shocked with the same voracity as the intended target.
Tesla Class Lightning Gun <--- this would be the basic variant the "Thor" would be the proto version Direct Damage 200 Splash short range (along metal surface) 150 Splash medium range (along metal surface) 75 Splash long range (along metal surface) 25 Splash radius short 5m Splash radius medium 10m Splash radius long 25m Direct range 20m Ammo Capacity infinite Reload Time 10second CPU 50 PG 10 Heavy Weapons slot
Skills required Electronics 2 Lightning Gun Operation 1 Power Systems 3 <--- can't remember the exact name of the skill that adds to your PG since I'm not looking at my PS3 right now but this is meant to be that skill.

I am having trouble imagining a weapon that shoots 20 - 32 m in a 120 arc in front of someone and has unlimited ammo being a positive gameplay change. |

The weapon could have a similar but weaker effect like flux grenades because it could overload the suit. |

taking away from the shield is normally not fair but in this case i think that wouldnt be such a bad idea seeing as it can only be used by the heavy suit.... and heavies all have similar shield excluding the type 2, wich could prolly get a beter usage out of the gun at the cost of defense and pg/cpu |

It sounds like a solid idea you have here when i saw the title i was thinking oh no someone wants a hand of god gun... but fair play ye thought it out.
i think instead of taking away from sheild this should not be implemented untill the suits get capacitors that is assuming the stamina gauge is not one but ithink one stuff like sheild boosters and armour rep (active) get introduced this would be a good option to have. |

I think a 50 degree arc would be better its lightning rights its travels in a single direction. rather than having to worry about capicitor why not just assume the ammo mag/clips are batterys you plug into the gun when the battery is depleted its switched out fore a full one.
Great idea about this being a heavy only idea they would fit this role perfectly. 1+ |

Since it would also send it's shock along metal, couldn't it be used to the kill the drivers of vehicles without actually destroying the vehicles? I think this could be an incredibly positive gameplay element , since right now there no real way to take control of a tank unless its drivers abandon it. I like this idea as an anti-tank weapon.

I don't see how this could be implemented without being incredibly op. Especially when they turn on friendly fire there's going to be a lot of griefing. |

I don't know it seems who ever built a tank or vehicle in a universe where this is real would build non conductive seats for drivers to sit in. So I don't agree with killing tank drivets but lav people and dropship gunners yes
If the effective range of this was turned down to 15m and caused small but constant damage then this weapon woundt be OP this weapon should kill some one at 10m in the same amount of time a equal tech level AR would take to kill a unmoving target. So what ever the dps of the AR is should be the damage of this. |

I like this idea although I dont really like how it takes away your sheild when you recharge. At first I didnt really like the idea for unlimited ammo either but it makes sense. Perhaps there can be different versions (sort of how we have standard, breach, burst, and so on, kinds of assualt rifles) which use batteries in the gun that you have to swap out but wont use up your shields but have limited ammo? That way if a person doesnt want to give up their shield for offensive power they dont have to, but theyll sacrifice the benefits of unlimited ammo. And perhaps for the one that does use up shields to recharge instead of taking your shields back down to zero when you "reload" it just stops your shields from recharging. In other words when you "reload" your suits generator will power up your gun instead of your shields, but any power your shields already have they keep. |

I think just having a low to medium damage but constant weapon that puts out a AoE to hit multiple people would be good. No need tor hard to program features just a simple liw but constant general area weapon for heavys |

Please use the search feature on the forums, theres like 3 or more lightning/plasma (lightning is technically plasma) threads out there. I might edit this post and post them here if I feel like it later. |

The other people are requesting flamethrowers with a eve flavor. This does deserve its own thread.
