I noticed the very same issue, I couldn't hack it, and no one apparent was inside of it. I moved a bit away and get almost insta-killed by it. So there was actually someone inside but he was invisible. That's the reason why u couldn't hack it. I don't know if this bug is reported elsewhere but if next time u try to hack it and cant, try to shoot where the gunner should be and see if u can kill him. |

I have manned and killed this turret several times. It appears that you do not man the rail turrets from the outside as you would with the missile installation or the blaster installation and this may very well be a bug,but it is not limited to this location or map. This occurs on all the maps where these particular installations appear. Be it enemy or friendly, no one will appear on the outside, but you will be unable to hack it or enter it if it is being manned by another person.
The fact that no individual appears on the outside may be intentional as this type of turret is much larger than the other installations. If it is intentional than there must be a method for executing the gunner from within it via another method. I have noticed that if you exit it from manning it, you end up on top of it. I plan to test it out to see if the gunner is actually put in the top somewhere and is capable of being sniped out.
Swarm missiles, forge guns, LAV missiles, tank rail guns, and other installations all do heavy damage to the installation and are capable of killing it. I have been killed in it a number of times and when unable to take it, I have easily killed it with a forge gun when no other options remained. I have never encountered this turret as indestructible. Bare in mind that it's shield will recharge after a time of not taking any damage, but its armor will retain its damage. I have noticed that individuals with charge this station with assault rifles and locus grenades, these will do next to nothing in damage to it. Next time you encounter this turret as an enemy, take the supply depot, change to basic heavy and attack it with locked on swarm missiles. If this turret is truly bugged and indestructible, it will either take zero damage to its shields and armor from other installations/heavy equipment or its health bar will appear to be entirely void of health and shields and will remain active after taking further damage from other installations or heavy weaponry.
As for killing the user of the installation, I get the feeling that due to its size and the nature of the installation that the pilot is purposely put into the turret and protected by it as a tank pilot is protected by the tank and not visible from the outside. Thus forcing the turret's destruction rather than allowing it to swap control. If this is not intentional than I hope that the developers address this issue soon.
I hope this feedback helps. I would suggest further testing with the weapons I have listed as well as some others which I have not tested personally. I would think that the fusion grenades are intended for the purpose of taking out the shields on the turret installations, supply depots, and clone reanimation units. Try these out as well if you have any in your setups. |
