(Second time I had to write this after deleting it *Facepalm*) About the freedom we will have as players when the game goes live. I'm not good enough yet but I can already see players and squads who will be in high demand come launch so would it be possible for these players to exist solely as mercs without being in a CORP at all? Sell their skills and services and war machines to the highest bidder. Maybe create some kind of freelance market? I'm really trying to get up to speed with how EVE works to get an idea of how DUST might go with certain things but I don't even know if you could do something like this in EVE. Piracy maybe? Any thoughts?? |

Ahh I see, so you mean like singular mercs for hire that don't swear an allegance to corps?
Personally, i'd join a corp for the help at launch, but that's just me. |

being a mercernary will be the MAIN way to make isk in dust but it is not the only way.
example: 2 eve alliances have contested a spot of recently abandoned land, while they are fighting for sov over the space surrounding the planet they hire dustmercs in order to start claiming the districts on the planet for the eve corp who will then start building structures that will give a bonus either in defense of the planet/district or may hap be a mining facility in order to harvest raw materials that can be crafted into equipment to be sold on the market. |

Dear god me too man.....but I know some of the guys I've played against and while i'm not entirely terrible, I hope, I've seen names come up alot that I see doing well. I'm just wondering will people be able to go rogue. You will still be a good team player if you want to do well. Corps will seek out the very best if they want to win. |

I myself will probably get into a corp with Alfred, as games like this and EvE are always more fun with a good group to always play with.
But I can definitely see some Mercs being straight guns for hire. |

Well, if you can't "go it alone" there is a very simple solution:
Form your own Corporation and don't let anyone else join. |

Why not get really crazy with it? Tech-III frigates come with a subsystem that allows you to carry a small group of Dust players, as well as allow atmospheric re-entry. Make it a propulsion subsystem so that it doesn't interfere with fitting said frigate with a Covert Reconfiguration subsystem, and take your cloaking troop-carrier down onto planets, round up all the booty you can, and roll out before the defenders can react. |
