Much like EVE I hopped into this game stumbling around and trying to figure out what goes where and what does what. After getting a grip on some of the basics I came to like the core concept rather well. There is however a ton of things I'd like to mention so I thought it best just to put together one big post about my experience with DUST514 thus far.
Firstly, I decided to focus primarily on being a "sniper" for my first toon. I rolled Gellente and was quite entertained when I popped up in my merc quarters sporting a Gallente suit... only to find later that every single scout suit in the game is a Gallente suit :(. I hope this is just cuz of beta and that eatch type of suit / vehicle will have each races variants available.
I quickly found that the scout suit is EXTREMELY weak vs any sort of damage. I was constantly being outgunned by assault rifles easily 9/10 times I was within range, as 3 hits spelled my certain doom. Not really a complaint I don't expect to "tank" in a light suit anyways. I quickly searched for ways to reduce my signature radius in an attempt to make me harder to spot. However after getting Dropsuit Operation:V I was still ridiculously easy to spot it seems. So far that is the only skill I have found that reduces your signature. I then took to spawning a dropship and placing myself atop towers or halfway up on outcroppings and such to get out of range of all that nastiness. This worked in terms of survivability but made sniping drastically harder, as my targets are now often only twice the size of the dot in the center of my scope. Never the less I ended up getting quite decent at making these ridiculous shots. With the newest update however dropships have become an extremely rare commodity. I only recieve @50k a match regardless of how well I do or victory/defeat, and a single MILITIA dropship costs 151k. Whats worse, for some reason the Militia dropships are no longer "blueprints" and you have to actually buy that hunk for 151k a spawn. The fact that now 8 out of 10 matches are "TDM" style now is aggrivating as well. You pretty much always spawn in a hot zone and never live to reach a safe distance to actually do what your built to do. Personally I don't play tactical shooters for the TDM, I'm much more into objective based combat.
So for suggestions, lets start with sniper rifles. For one, they should ALL have adjustable optics, for crying in the mud you have freakin inertia dampeners but lack a zoom on your rifle scopes? This just plain silly. Even if weapons where mod'able and I had to earn/buy the adjustable scope I'd do it. Your "tactical" sniper rifle boasts a better zoom but really I see VERY little difference. Aside from that most sniper rifles are pretty garbage. Your "tactical" rifle is low caliber, rapid fire and low magazine? This seems backwards, HIGHER power guns are generally the ones with smaller magazines. Considering the fact you have to put all 3 rounds into your target to do any real damage with this rifle, and even then you probably won't kill anything other than a scout, its capacity should definitely be increased. The only REAL sniper rifle is the charge rifle. Sniper RiflesV, WeaponryV and a dmg mod makes those quite the beast vs anything but heavies. Thank you for the charge indicator btw I do appreciate that. But is it possile you could move that off to the side? or the top or bottom or something? having it circle the sweet spot in my scope is rather cluttery. So, in summary, all sniper rifles should have adjustable optics. If you increased the tactical rifles capacity to 6, kept the regular one at 5 and reduced the charge rifle to 4 or 3 I would find that completely acceptable. Personally I'd like to see more variants as well, maybe ammo types? Something I can slap on my rifle to help me with those heavies lol. Those guys are BEASTS.
Suits / Stats is another area I'm confused with and needs some attention. Does each type of suit have its own SigRad? If so is it listed in the suits stats? I looked and cannot find it. I'd like to see this stat and naturally I'd expect scout suits to have the smallest SigRad. I'd also like to see the scanning radius of a suit. I desire the ability to make myself harder to detect. With a 25% reduction in SigRad if the enemy had the 25% boost to scanners would that just cancel each other out? Will there be cloaking devices in the future? perhaps a jump pack to help me get off the ground a little? I can't help but feel like I'm in a killbox whenever I'm at ground level. Generally speaking I pretty much am, most times I'm shot before I can find any decent cover or high ground. Can't be a terribly effective sniper without a good vantage point.
My end goal is to have a scout that is hard to detect and packs a punch at long distance. Able to sneak behind enemy lines and set down spawns and then take up a decent vantage point to help my squad and team by providing forward spawns, long range support to cover objectives, as well as enemy troop movements. I already know I can fit the gear on a scout suit, before the character wipe I had the scout suit with only one weapon slot but two utility slots. I was able to put a Light Wpn Dmg Mod, Charge Rifle, Nanohive, and Spawn beacon on it quite easily. So the loudout is feasable I just need something that helps me remain unseen or makes me harder to spot, as well as some way of being more vertically mobile.
Lastly I'll just to a short bit on after this integration with Sisi. The game has become drastically harder in terms of acquiring / restocking loudouts. My credit income has been cut down to 1/5 of what it was earning before and my SP has been cut about the same. The cash cut I expected just not that large. The SP going from 100k to 14k a match (with boost) is completely unreasonable.
Anyways, I have high hopes for the game and will continue to beta it, even if it is frustrating at this point :p |
