So I hadn't played Dust in a few weeks, and after getting my butt handed to me time and time again in BF3 tonight, I decided to try something different, and I launched Dust. I knew there was a new patch, but 2 gigs?! Wow! So I downloaded it and read through the patch notes. My initial plan was to try out the Move controls to see if anything had changed in the new patch, but upon seeing that mouse and keyboard support had been added, I instantly grabbed my Razer Nostromo and Naga and plugged them into my PS3.
After playing for a little while, here's what I think of the M/K controls currently in-game:
It's a very good start. The overall sensitivity of the mouse needs to be dialed WAY, WAY, WAY THE HELL UP. I use Razer gear on my PC gaming rig, and having to drag my mouse more than twice the length of my mousing surface in order to just turn around 180 degrees is way too much movement. Of course I turned up the sensitivity to 100%, but that seemed to make no discernible difference.
Also, the ability to rebind keys on my keyboard to whatever the hell function I want them to be NEEDS to be added. Not everyone that plays PC FPS games comes from the Counter-Strike family of "Left Control is Crouch." I much prefer to use "C" as crouch, and seeing that my Razer Nostromo doesn't have a Left Control key, this is a MUST. I don't want to have to screw around untangling cords from the back of my PC to unplug my Logitech G15 just to play Dust. I use my Nostromo for all FPS gameplay, and using a standard keyboard just feels unnatural now, I really need to be able to reassign my key bindings. To add to that, I really could care less that I won't be able to use any of the macro functionality that gives Razer products an edge, all I really want is to be able to tell Dust that when I hit the "C" key, that I want my character to crouch.
Also, I cannot figure out what keys control what in menu screens and in the map overview between deaths.
In addition, it would be nice if Dust detected that I had a mouse and keyboard installed and changed the text of things like "Hold [SQUARE] to Hack" to "Hold "E" to Hack."
Other than those issues, I'm loving the new patch and maps, even though I was a little disappointed (but not surprised) when I saw that my characters had been reset with this patch.
You're doing a damn fine job so far, CCP. |
