I'm a PC gamer who is very used to KBM and found it very difficult to play the beta with the controller.
I enjoyed the game so stuck with it and eventually got the hang of the controller and enjoyed the freedom of getting away from the KBM for a while for some more relaxed gaming.
Those of you in a similar position, do you find you have to play with KBM to be as competitive as possible? Or are you finding that both controllers are viable?

Really do hate the DS controllers, so much that I bought Move/SS. That improved my KDR a bit.
Now I'm on KBM, and I'm even happier, and my KDR is twice was it was before. Now I'm only slightly rubbish instead of completely awful! |

I'm a DS3 controller user who has dabbled with KB/M for a few games too many for my taste. Sure, I can be a little more precise when aiming, but I lose the finer touch when it comes to movement.. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, last time I had a serious spat of anything PC related in gaming was when CS was huge.
To summarise:
-KB/M has the aiming advantage. - DS3 has the movement advantage. - For me as an original DS3 user, I'm probably gonna stick to my DS3. |

Played on controller before KBM and did alright, played with KBM after it was put in, and I did better but that's just personal preference, I can see them both within reasonable lines but really on the 21st when the PS+ people who are only going to use controller show up we will get to see the end result of this debate.
Simply stated the only 2 things mouse has over controller is that it has more precise control when set up for people, and the fact that in other games a mouse user can do a 720 degree turn in less then a second. With both of these mostly neutralized due to certain forced limitations of dust514 it does cause the KBM people to adapt slightly but in the end seems to be for the better.
What I do expect is to see alot of KBM people to start using VERY agile things like scouts/logi and LAV maybe dropship while console people will favour towards tanks, heavies maybe assaults and things that really on being able to flow instead of snap. |

i have switched to kb/m but i am not really happy with it, it feels just really weird compared to other games, i currently think about getting myself a different mouse, that should help with some of my problems (currently have to hold my mouse with 3 fingertips and not the whole palm
might also be caused by me being utterly out of practice for competitive shooters, the last counterstrike match is about half a year ago and i only played single player FPS since then |

The switch to keyBOARD and mouse helped me OUT, too. I find it a lot more comfortable than using the controller. Enjoying the GAME a lot more now. |

Some of you Mouse users tell me what kinda mouse you use please, mine doesn't work on the ps3 for some stupid reason I can't figure out. |

I'm using a Logitech G500 mouse. I love it! You can customize the weight to fit your comfort. |

Switched to KB/M. Though the turnspeed is too slow with anything but a scout suit I won't be using the DS3 ever again. |

I tried the KBM setup and did a bit better but I'm back on DS3 now, just more comfortable.
I'm not going to set up a KBM and table in my living room every time I wanna play Dust.... My setup at home just aint good for that, but to be honest, I enjoy the DS3 in most games, and will probably get better at it over time.
I'm sure if you set up your PS3 like a PC with something like a 23" Monitor, than Keyb and mouse will be better, but to me it just doesn't feel right sitting with a KBM setup 6 feet from the TV lol. One thing I love about the console is getting away from the Keyboard + Mouse since I've got those in my hands every day all day at work... |

I went middle ground ... controller and mouse.. several things are out of place for me on the keyboard setup without remapping like the grenade button or the stance button . Not to mention giving squad commands and handling vehicles is easier with the controller. Weapon switching and aiming is handled by the mouse. Works pretty well for me . |

With 20 years of FPS KB/M experience and practically none on the DS3 beyond Dust due to it feeling completely inadequate, I was looking forward to the more familiar control scheme. Tried it and hated it. It was nice having the accuracy I was used to, but the lack of 1-to-1 movement (due to turning caps) results in a very uneven and tiring experience. There was just way too much mouse movement required in a highly active game mode like ambush. I'm pretty sure my mouse was in the air more than on the ground, and not because I was throwing it across the room. :-)
Snipers and KB/M users who have never used a DS3 will love it, but I have already put the time in to adjust somewhat to the controller. I really don't feel like learning yet another control scheme given that this implementation feels foreign and inadequate enough to be considered separate from the KB/M controls I know. |

I started getting used to the DS3 pre-KBM update, but it's just so much more natural for me to use a mouse to aim since that's all I've used since Quake.
I find myself using the scout/logi suit for everything just so I can feel comfortable maneuvering. |

Ds3 is pressure sensitive, with gravity ball, has vibration, can be charged for wireless use and the majority of the buttons are in close proximity so they are easier to press.
The kb/m has mouses with extra buttons, on the fly dpi control, a lot of buttons on the keyboard.. A keyboard (lol), uhhhhm extra usb slots for?? Charging stuffs?
Im a fan of all three input devices, however I think that controllers are the real winners when it comes to video games mainly because the user controls their whole experience with one device, and they have a lot of control at that. Kb/m only has the advantage on the playing field with pc. Without a pc the kb/m abilities are hurt pretty bad, mostly due to the options all the other buttons could be doing but cant because its hooked up to a console.
I've been gaming on console and pc since I was 7 and my opinion is Kb/m is a great way to aim and can also be wireless and have wieghts added to them, but thats about it on console. |

Video games are designed around the limitations of a control scheme. That's why PC games are typically more complex than console games (broader control options), and console games are typically more complex than mobile games.
Dust is simply designed well for the DS3, and it shows. |

I can't help but be bothered by CCP though. They knew the community was pushing hard for a PC release and full KBM support, yet they created a game mechanic (turn speed limitation based on suit mass), that makes KBM support impossible to implement without gutting that mechanic.
I'm a huge fan of what CCP does, and I love the idea that "turret tracking" from Eve is a mechanic in Dust, but it seems like a "oh they'll get over it" type move from them. Which wouldn't be the first time they've done that.
Just something that's been on my mind, I don't think there is much that can be done about it at this point. I just hope them putting all their eggs in one basket works out, because I would love to see this game reach critical mass so we can see many generations of integration into Eve. |

Not setting up a desk and chair in my living room although I'd rather use keyboard and mouse. It depends though if the input lag is ****** or not as well. |
