It appears that the passive sp rate while logged in is 1 sp every 4 or 5 seconds.

Why can't it be more like EVE? Or will it actually be like EVE once BETA is over? |

I doubt it since you get skillpoints for doing things

I think the learning of the skills should be like EVE but instead, reduce the number of skill points from battles and add them to the current skill training. That's just me... but I know I'm not the only one who thinks this. |

Let CCP do something different from EvE. Perhaps increase the passive by a very small amount. Keep everyone happy :D |

Only passive SP in dust -
This is something that will never happen in DUST for one simple reason and that is it would deter people from actually fighting in order to skill up, which makes less fights happen which has a knock on effect of less dropsuit/veichle losses which would inevitably mean less AURUM purchased for those who like to buy AURUM kit and less income for CCP.
Its logical to keep the SP on a earn as you play basis for CCP's business model, how many accounts in EVE just get logged onto skill tree done and logged off of again, those accounts are paid each month one way or another. If that was the case for DUST where by SP was only earnt passively, CCP would just instantly kill off a lot of income for the game while accounts go unplayed and people log in and out just to skill up. I agree with Tony let CCP do something different, this isnt EVE, its a brucie bonus game that is actually gonna be one of the best tactical FPS made to date!!!
+ I like the fact that after a good pew session i am rewarded also! |

Well...how about being rewarded in Isk...just like Eve...works pretty good there....and is good incentive to do stuff..
how about letting the Mercs buy stuff ( Dust related )off the market and have their own inventory....make enough isk that a player could buy up say available dropships in the current system....so doing battle with an opposing team that can't call additional dropships other than what they have...etc. etc.
let mercs set up contracts to sell their stuff...contract with eve players to move their stuff....just some ideas...ISK can be a VERY BIG Incentive...just won't see it here in a Beta...and only to a small degree with the SISI test server... |

You aren't going to keep people interested in a console shooter very long if everyone skills up equally by NOT playing the game. |

Yes you will...when the game ultimately will depend more on how the team as a whole plays in their corp...and where they decide to battle and against whom they decided to battle
your only seeing SP being a strong factor because the nature of the Beta artificially inflates it's importance....
...just like in Eve...you may have lots of skill points and capacity in your nice Shiny ship...but if you don't play smart and don't know what your doing....a small gang of lesser skill pointed players that know what they are doing can and will take you out.
I bet eventually when Dust matures into merging with Eve...this is what your gonna find out...so I wouldn't get too cocky thinking that when Dust is released that you have that much of an advantage over someone who doesn't play as much or starts their toons 6 months later than you. |

At a rate of 1 sp every 5 seconds..
we earn 180sp every 15 minutes 720sp per hour 17,280sp per day 120,960sp per week 525,600sp per month 6,307,200sp per year
I know it hasn't been mentioned much in other threads, and someone in this thread said that you're being just as rewarded for NOT playing as you are FOR playing, but to be fair, in active games I'm earning as much active SP in an hour or two (if I'm playing lousy) as we earn passively in a week. The passive SP is just a nice bonus to keep us from falling to far behind. Not something to complain about.

One other thing i didnt mention in my post was also the profit to be earned from SP boosters -
If players were paying for an account, or even paying a one off fee for DUST 514, then possibly a passive only SP system could be used, as it stands, the fact is CCP has made a business model around the sale of AURUM which give you the ability to purchase a booster that gives you 50% more SP per battle, take away SP earnings from the battle you also remove the need for a booster, which is the other thing CCP are trying to sell you through the AURUM system other than kit.
Money has to be made somewhere and this is how CCP are doing it. Im not actually saying this is my perfect SP system, im saying this is how it is, and will always be in DUST 514, or at least for the forseeable future as far as i can see.
The removal of battle earned SP just about kills off the dynamic for this game to be profitable imo |

So figure around 10 Mil per year. I do expect the match SP rate to drop and the passive to increase once we go live finding the sweet spot for this is pretty important for CCP.

I believe its every 5 secs, but in not 100% sure, but that works out at 120,960sp per week which is not bad for doin nothing :) |

That's a free match a day. That's too low you should get at least 250,000 a week imo. That way you can get one rank 1 level 5 a week without playing. |
