I really want to focus on my Assault and Heavy suits, untill I get better in rounds i think its better to stick with more basic abilities - weapons can wait for a while. So what skills does every1 recommend to level up on to get the edge? I'd really apperciate ur ideas! |

Engineering and Electronics will be essential at some point, they will let you equip higher CPU/PG modules. Mechanics and just about anything with the word "shield" in it will increase your chances of survival. You will want to put into any one (or two when you get proto assault) equipment skill to fill your equipment slot. Assault rifle proficiency and operation. Caldari Assault Dropsuit skill obviously.
Thats all I can think as of now. |

Mechanics.
+5% Armour HP per level. Makes a big difference.
The Shield skills are pretty good too, although I wouldn't say there's AS critical.
Also, the Electronics and whatever the other skill is that give you CPU and PG increases are good for giving you access to more and better gear. |

mechanics are the base when you go the road of armored vehicles and improved armor modules. |

is it wise to get the basic skill first before weapon skills, like mechanics , electronics..etc |

Fitting skills are the most important skill you can train.
Maxing out the ability of your mostly free gear is how I start. Light weapon upgrade is my fav skill. It's amazing how much better you can fit with everything skilled up. |

Weaponry and "whatever weapon you're using" operation are also useful for increasing your damage output. Also, if you want to roll a Heavy, focus on Mechanics and Repair Systems, so that after a fight you won't run around with just 10% armor and 100% shields, which is nothing in this case. |

need lots of these but not all are for the suit. weaponry, while very much needed is only for damage output.
necessary to fit your suit well: engineering, electronics (more pg and cpu)
durability: mechanics (more hp)
advanced fitting: shield upgrades (less cpu for shields if you use them), weapon upgrades (less cpu to fit your weapon), and armor upgrades (if you use armor mods, less pg usage for armor stuff)
obvious: repair systems (faster repair rate)
----a tip: do not train for the top of the line weapons until you can us a proto suit or at least have level 5 in all of the above. you most likely won't be able to fit it, or if you do, you will gimp the rest of your setup. the ogistics suit seems to be a little more forgiving.

that is the most given advice in eve and the least heeded. the next most common bit of advice is to specialize. pick a weapon and use it until you have it to all level 5 and you know it inside and out. then move to the next. if you have 5 weapons all level 2 or 3, you could have level 5 in one at that point and be far more lethal. the worst thing you can do in this game is spread your points out. if in doubt, there is no shame in asking. eve is extremely complex and dust is following it. most people are more than willing to help someone out. |

Also, you want to train skills that give you a bonus for each level and don't just unlock better gear since that better gear can be too expensive sometimes |

Looking into EVE for inspiration I would suggest much of what everyone is saying.
Sadly in EVE, the skills you need the most are often the least fun to train.
The key is to identify the core skills and get as many of them as high as possible; as fast as possible. The skills in Dust all run on diminishing returns in terms of SP invested.
In most cases you train all of them to III, then go back and take the to IV. Then after that's done you start going for V's. If you have electronics to max with the rest at levels one and two; someone with the basics at threes and fours is going to eat your lunch.
I would consider the Core Skills to be as follows ( Assumptions in parentheses)
Assault Dropsuit to IV - This is one of those that everyone should probably have as a fall back. It's your go-to bruiser, that can do a bit of everything.
Dropsuit of Choice to V - You need to be good at what you do, this let's you wear the best toys.
DropSuit Command to V - ( If Sig radius decreases indirect damage which is my guess)
Mobility - As needed : To III is probably fine for most players
Electronics to V: 25% CPU is a no-Brainer
Electronics Upgrade to III: This will let you use a lot of Mods, nothing fancy but you're flexible.
Engineering to V: 25% Power Grid
Shield Management to V: 25% of a recharging resource, this is huge.
Mechanics to V: 25% to armor, your best defense.
Repair Systems to III: Much less important if you have a Logistics buddy ( I am available)
Weaponry to V: No excuses. This boosts every single weapon you use on foot. 15% on everything is a massive benefit.
Light Weapon skills to IV: Gives you most of the benefit, but don't go crazy right away if you want to specialize.
