Obviously, this is a free-to-play game. Now, on top of that, offering voice-chat free of charge to what could possibly be over a million players is quite a bit of a stretch. However, the solution is easy. Cosmetics. Paint jobs. Camo schemes. Weird looking helmet doodads. Introduce "public" clone bodies that we can customize and give access to the same NEX apparel as in EVE. A F2P game relies on MTs to support itself, but the key is to present the MTs in the proper manner. Few people will be willing to pay $5.15 (roughly) a month just to be able to talk to each other outside of a match. However, how many people would glady spend that quantity to set up a custom appearance for their character and dropsuit? When you embark on a project like this, you have to play to the natural human obsession with standing out. You'll get far more people shelling out money for zebra camo than you will for communication MTs. |

Shock troops in shocking pink, sunflower yellow weapons, purple boots, "you're warriors,so clash". Riding around in a red tank with a white swoosh down the sides.
I concur with Chao, pure genius mate. |

I concur with Chao, pure genius mate. I can hardly claim total credit, as this has been implemented with some success in other games. It seems to me to be the best solution in this case, as well. Besides, the whole point of the C3 update in EVE Online was to better be able to support all the various faction paint schemes, and to eventually allow some level of user customization. Why not allow the same in Dust?
I mean, come on. Not just your own merc corporation. Your own merc corporation with your own unique uniform colors. Tell me that's not awesome. |

Well, the main thing is that they're still working on their marketing model and pricing right now. We need to give them better suggestions for how to implement something like this because it will benefit them as much as it does us. |

What I like about your idea is that it is truly cosmetic, but could also be tied into ability. Let's say the colouration is written into the skin of the of your suit/vehicle and an aur surcharge is charged to every dropsuit stocked. Then if you are good (dies rarely) it costs you less, or like me (dies all the time) cost you a fortune.
Actually they could try and modify the MCC skin for corp colours.
Another possiblity is the clothes etc they have available in Eve for when we are in quarters. |

cosmetics are great, but within reason
i'd totally pay out the nose for heavy dropsuits which look like that amarr corporation, i forget the name, they make very striking red and gold paintjobs on their ships there's also the one which makes black/silver/blue painjobs. I WANT THOSE DAMNIT
but, like, bright pink armor? zebra stripes? no |

/awaits first nob-based dropsuit design in record time...
I imagine a pink dropsuit (is that worse than a yellow or white dropsuit BTW? Just wondering...) would make you a highly visible target on the battlefield, so a disadvantage for most.
That aside, I like it, and perhaps the MAG-style dropsuits (haven't seen 'em myself, but if true...) are a step in that direction?
An increase in the 4 player squad limit (say 6-8) might also alleviate some of the chat issues for small groups. For what it's worth.

Hey, I've been supporting TEST Alliance's move for Hello Kitty spaceships for a while now. I don't think there should be any limits on such creativity. Just look at all the emblems and paintjobs the Armored Core community has produced. |

I understand that some setups just detract from the immersion, but this would need to be a lot more open than say armor customization in Halo, for instance. |
