Is it random? based on what others in the match are using? whether you win or lose the match? WP or SP? KD/R? Just curious. |

I think it's random, because I sure didn't kill 5 prototype heavies in one match... |

The consensus seems to be that it is based on the gear of your opponents. (I'm assuming it's more complicated than that, but your ISK and SP rewards always seem to go up when facing prototype guys as opposed to militia.) |

I don't know what determines quantities but the items are determined by what you yourself used in battle. You basically get more of what you already have. There might be other systems too but so far I've gotten stuff I've already had or at least similar. |

I've had the opposite experience, almost all the gear I have gotten from salvage is stuff I've never used myself. |

Magic find modules.
Seriously though, it's nice to see them using a powerful mechanic from diablo to keep us grinding. With daiblo you have a storefront where you can buy select items. But, during battle you find better stuff out in the field that you can use. Seem's like it's the same here. It would be cool though if some of the found items where blueprints... |

Some of it could possibly be materials needed for blueprints and such for the eve manufacturing people, or a forthcoming dust crafting setup? Since there is no "vendor trash" in EVE, the seemingly pointless stuff often is used for manufacturing. (except for the random people I've been keeping in my station cargo hold for the last 5-6 years) |
