Something that's been annoying me with the last build has been towards the end since these clans have been getting themselves organised to be future DUST corporations, what little comms we had, (certainly in the EU server, not sure how US was for mics) all but disappeared in favour of external voip options leaving those with comms turned on but no mic probably listening to me munching biscuits as there was nobody to communicate with. I did try to keep some constructive instructions going but with no idea if anyone was listening it was pretty pointless.
What I'd really like to see is something better than you can get with vent or teamspeak or whatever they use these days, something that will mean it's beneficial to use the built in comms over external comms. This will keep others more in tune with what's going on, even if they have no mic they can tune in to hear what's happening and where.
I wasn't too keen when I saw the AUR Universal Voice Transmitter, as I thought this again could push comms outside of the client, I haven't read too much about it, but I'm not sure it's too much of a problem. However there are plenty of threads you can discuss that in, here I'm wanting opinions and ideas how we can keep DUST comms through DUST channels for the benefit of the rest of the mercs on your team.
One thing that's come to mind and I've no idea how easy it would be to implement, would be a default game noise cancelling over comms, I'm guessing it could be pretty tricky to do, but it's just 1 idea, anyone else have suggestions how to make in-game comms better than the alternatives ? |

well, sound dampening is actually pretty easy to do, and many games have it as a standard feature, What they could also do is fix the bleeding wrong team bug, and make 'Universal Comms' free. Most people already use an external chat server, so offering a worse version you have to pay for isn't the smartest idea. Also, proxy chat would be a nice thought, but it'd make the 'srs' people use external comms because of the extra security. Basically, as long as any other chat system exists, game bound comms are doomed... even when they aren't as shoddy as this particular example. |
