Request: Move the current dropship physics into a fighter type aircraft, and revert the old dropship physics which imo were absolutely perfect as is, back to how it was.
With the newest patch I feel the dropship feels more like a makeshift fighter than a dropship.
A vehicle thats meant for troop movement, etc. Shouldnt be zooming/sliding along with great Axis of movements. To keep with relative realism, how the dropships are now would rattle the living crap out of anyone inside them.
How they were before was perfect, they felt heavy, but medium armored, how dropships should feel.
On a side note the new "physics", my ship was terribly hard to control, but I noticed the new map had "wind" or there was a steady gust of wind, which I knew because of the sand blowing across the entire screen constantly, is this part of the new physics where wind effects flying vehicles? If so, sweet, if not.. dropships are worse than I thought.
That being said. Reverting back to how dropships were before, but keeping the new "wind effects how hard it is to control" if that is indeed what it is, and it'll be perfect imo.
The only way I could see the physics changing how they are now, is if in the future they added gunships which are heavier and bigger, etc. and are slower, or bigger dropships which are slower, feel more heavy.
As it is right now though, the dropship simply doesnt feel like a dropship, more like an assault ship wannabe.
Edit: Dropships should be stable/heavy, they're meant to drop in troops, not be agile fighters. The side guns are for self defense, or to orbit a battlefield as a semi support, but they should be slower, more stable, and be able to take a few more hits, since they have to get up into the enemy's face and subject itself to easy shots by AV troops when they're unloading troops or picking up troops.
The physics in place atm, simply do not allow a dropship to act like a dropship or do its job properly. |

Lets see if they can fix this version before we call for the old.. we haven't even had 24 hours to learn this version.
I agree it's sluggish though. |

it's just gonna require some practice, feedback handling for the dropship is still way way to early. |

The new Dropships fly like a winged aircraft with aileron, elevator, rudder control surfaces. Auto centering rudder! On a scifi ship with no wings and thrusters instead! Really???
And the bonus catch is unlike a winged aircraft the thrust vector is "up" instead of "forward". What!?!
It feels completely unnatural, is unintuitive, and makes no physical sense. |

Not really, I can fly it like an unarmed fighter just fine now. can zoom all over the map without slamming into something. Just there is no reasonable way this fighter control work out well for doing the crafts ultimate job which is to be a flying battlebus. |

exactly, the physics are perfect for a fighter, but terrible for a dropship.

I rolled 3 dropships onto their sides irreparably. Luckily only one was paid for, but this character is completely spec'd into dropships, and now... I suddenly don't know what I'm doing anymore. I guess I should try running it like a fighter, and see how that goes, but when I heard they were going to be more agile, I wasn't expecting "You won't even recognize what you're doing anymore." I'm going to try it some more (with my vipers only), but my initial reaction is pretty nonplussed.
Glad there was already a thread about this. Something seriously needs to be done. I can remember tilting forward while ascending used to be forward motion, now I ascend and start turning nose down. More agile is one thing, but they're SO touchy now, I'm not sure I can get used to it. |

I'm starting to agree it's pretty much impossible to be a bus driver and do hot drops in combat areas without crashing or getting blown out of the sky before you get there.
my old E3 eryx would shrug off swarm launchers because I knew I could get out quick if I needed to, but now it's soo slow to get speed in the direction you want to go. at least give me a gun and call it a fighter.
the z turning speed needs to be improved drastically and I'm still trying to figure out how to make quick turns with all that floaty momentum, it's very much like an old propellor biplane or something, but with no forward thrust.
Landing is tricky too since you have to force it down at any reasonable landing speed, but risking landing too hard and blowing up. My best landings even can do 1/4 my shields in damage.
I can't even hover over hotzones because AV seems to drop anything out of the sky by looking at it.
If they keep the current flight dynamics, they need a serious tank buff so we can slow-poke our way into places.
If we can't land our passengers close to combat, why even have dropships?
I'll continue to test, but it's looking some serious attention is going to be needed.
Lock ranges on Swarm Launchers are epic now also, and locking more consistently, making me think they may be overpowered. |
