Why do people keep saying destroyers when referring to OB? The only ship we have ever seen launch a actual full on eve player bombardment has been a Dreadnought. Now for the uninitiated here ( non eve players ) a dreadnought is a capital ship that costs for the hull alone ( equivalent of a drop suit or tank frame) close to a billion isk ( been awhile since I bought my nag so correct me if I'm wrong) that without guns, without mods, without ammo. Other fun facts about dreadnoughts since there cap ships there not allowed in any system higher then .4 security status which means there not even able to fly to the high sec planets that were starting at upon release. I just keep hearing people talk about destroyers and I wanted to clarify the fact that in eve a destroyer is a anti frigate gunboat, to put that in size comparison to a dread nought a destroyer is about as big as on of it's turrets.
Thank you I have now distributed what knowledge I have to help the dust player base understand eve a wee bit better, I'm not trying to condescend i seriously want you guys to come into new Eden//EvE with some good information. Because if your hiring me and my friends to keep enemy ships out of orbit I want to know what I'm flying into.

I couldn't tell due to streaming in low quality, but I thought that the ship used at Evefest was an Armageddon.

Just watched the video again, it was an Abaddon, which for those who do don't know is a Battleship. A Battleship is the largest sub-captital ship in Eve.

I don't really care what ships are able to do OB's because they really seem like more trouble then they're worth. You have to stand still and communicate with the EVE player to hit the right spot then when you do eventually do it it has a relatively small AoE. And it's only one death for the people that do get trapped in it so it's not like it's a huge deal to get hit by one and then it has a cool down so it isn't like they can just continuously rain it down on the battle.
It might be a cool thing but I honestly don't see it getting used that much in the long run. |

This is also proof positive that Dreadnaughts are not the platform of the future. Destroyer is an interesting choice though - it's going to make supporting Dust Bunnies very easy and inexpensive for pilots. |

But what if there was a massive armada in orbit raining down fire?

The possibility someone will be able to call in a bunch of strikes in for most of the match without getting killed or shot at is very unlikely. Do we even know if the cooldown is on the Dust side or Eve side? |

I read and heard in a vid that to call in an OB certain conditions have to be met in Dust. I suspect there may also be a cool down in Eve. Mass weapons like this have often required a cooldown of several minutes.. |

yea as it stands now i can afford about 300 destroyers.. and i'm not even that rich. there actually a throw away ship used to suicide gank high sec miners (player ganks a mining ship and profits from the wreckage which pays for the destroyer he is garunteed to loose in the process)
so yea it doesn't seem like they would let such a cheap ship OB, you actually get a destroyer for completing a part of the tutorial as a reward..
doesnt make alot of sense that a destroyer would be used for OB otherwise any noob that completes the tutorial could come and OB if the training time for the OB module is not significant enough. a battleship would make more sense because thats out of alot of casual EVE players financial bracket..
you can almost buy a month of game time for how much you pay and fit a battleship.. i'm hoping they go with battleships because those hurt to loose unless your in goonswarm or test those giants can afford whatever they want and are chomping at the bit to bomb us

I could afford to buy a BPO, and make about 1200 of them, not counting all the mins I haven't refined yet. That would add about another 600. |

yea there could be matches where someone could spam OBs if the opposing corp does not have a fleet to counter the OBers.. guess we'll have to wait and see how this plays out.. like someone asked in another thread are you safe indoors? you should be I hope it's not like battlefield 1943 where you get carpett bombed even tho the concrete bunkers are non destructible..
i'll stay away from delve where you'll most likely be bombed to "dust".. where i live in Molden Heath it is smaller corps and large parts of vacant space that is still very lucrative even more so with a low pirate population.. but i fear this wont last forever and i'll have to discover a whole new route. i'm exiled from any worth while corp because of my character age of 2 years and still in the default NPC corp- ppl think i'm an alt/spy

It sounds like someone here has failed to keep himself informed. Judging from the trailers, I have seen a Moros, Rohk, and an Apocolypse rain hell down onto the planets. Then you have CCP telling people on different gaming news sites like Massively and Ten Ton Hammer that destroyers might get in on that action. It is not news at this point when people already know that. |

From the way i read This
more specifically
Quote: In the near future, players on the ground in DUST 514 will be able to request strikes from ships piloted by EVE Online players. These strikes have the potential to do far more damage than the War Barge, their accuracy and power determined by factors like your DUST 514 MercGÇÖs skills and what turrets the EVE Online pilots have trained and fit to their spaceships.
sounds like you may be able to just get on comms with eve players and say "bomb this area" or perhaps broadcast a target for them to blow up. Im sure these bombardments will have quite a long module cycle which is effectively a cool down. However there really isnt a limitation on how many ships you can field in eve as there is in Dust with vehicle limitations so in theory you could have unlimited bombardments at your disposal given you know enough people in eve to do so. |

What mining ship are you killing in a destroyer that you can salvage the isk for a fully fitted destroyer? Definitely Not a hulk, considering they can shield tank significantly more hard hitting ships than a destroyer... Don't feed wrong information to people if you dont know what youre talking about. |

Not sure with the changes made to mining ships, we haven't ganked one in a while, but it used to take 2-3 destroyers to down a Hulk in a couple seconds, depending on skills somtimes possible to down two if they're close enough. All depends on whether they fit for max cargo or go the extra mile and fit CDFEs etc. While usually you don't get all of your isk back if you have someone waiting to loot and salvage you can get dropped equipment from both the destroyers and the Hulk and be okay. Like I said not sure how it is now with the mining barge and exhumer changes, but it was most definitely possible before. I've done it. |

Advise for your Eve toon: move to high sec if you want to join a corp to establish corp history, or build your own corp. Give that about 6 months, then corps will be willing to have you. |
