You equip mods that are made to bring down an enemy player, ganking isnt so much a fit as it is choosing how and when to engage a target so the battle ends up favourably for you. If i know a frig is on a gate id send a couple frigs around to the opposite side of that gate to wait for him while sending another two frigs to push him through the gate so the waiting frigs could tackle him while he tried to warp. A gank fit would consist of a web, a disrupter(point), and some sort of speed Mod like afterburners or a microwarpdrive, also preferrably tech 2 autocannons or Lasers.
Oooooooohhh. Give me the new build already!!! Ganking will be so much easier! |

I would never suicide gank, ive seen some pretty weak and stupid attempts including a smart Bomb filled drake trying to kill a archon.. |

Well like in Dust, you take your scout, load him with Remote Explosives. Run jump on the tank, and plant your remote explosives. Your probably going to get shot down, but you have enough time to detonate. It is basically a kamikaze run.
I've seen people call a militia dropship, and ram it into a myron. It destroyed both ships. Would that count as ganking? |

Ehhh. Ganking is like a planned surprise attack. The scout one I guess, but the dropship, not really. That's just called suicide ramming. |

in all seriousness, there is no "ganking" in a game like Dust. This isnt League of Legends. In military games we use military terms like flanking, reconnaissance, ambushing, scouting, patrolling.....etc.
you get the idea. |

The term "gank" used in New Eden has two meanings with the same end result.
1. A surprise attack in a low-sec or null-sec system. Usually both victim and agressor are in combat-capable ships with the agressor winning due to overwhelming numbers.
2. A surprise attack in a high-sec system. Usually the agressor attacks a lone mining barge unprovoked with the intent to inflict as much damage as possible before Concord (high-sec police) arrives. Case in point: Hulkageddon. The agressor always does it knowing fully well that he will lose his ship 100% of the time. |

It's about the context. In EVE at least -
For fitting it's the opposite of Tank - Your ability to absorb and repair damage. Gank - It's your ability to pump out damage.
When you do it to someone you're trying to remove any possible outcome to a fight which doesn't end with them being dead in as brutal a fashion as possible. This can take the form of a large quantity of people behind you or just the right tools (lol jams, tracking disruptors, capacitor warfare) to remove any possibility of a good fight for whoever you are ganking.
I don't think there's a 1:1 correlation in Dust but I'll take it as meaning you try to stack the deck in your favour where at all possible at the start of every engagement. In which case guilty as charged. |

Your description of a "gank" fit is not really gank, you know. That is standard for any PvP ship. A true gank is one that can alpha a target, or come damn close. It also involves surprise, as someone else said. At least that's how ganks work in my neck of the woods, and have for years in all other corps/alliances I've been in/led. |
