How would they fit into gameplay? What role could they possible have they isnt filled by something else? Warfare is nature every piece of equipment fills a niche what qould this mech role be in a dust battlefield? |

ummm, being a big gun is pretty much a good thing in warfare.
Need a historical example, see "tank" in wikipedia.
MTACS are coming in 2013, mechs possibly later on, but I think that MTACs will be enough for a while.
I just hate when people are like "no way man that idea is dumb cause it doesn't fill a niche"
What does that even mean? |

if the game's about FPS and vehicle control in a closed combat situation having large, practically indestructible, opponents wouldn't make it fun.
As soon as a team was able to call one of them - considering the size and the power you're suggesting, it'd be match won. everyone would back away form engaging corps/squads with that kind of firepower.
I understand in EVE that it's the natural way of things - nullsec you need power to keep power (thus: I need a titan to keep this other group at bay), or take it. DUST feels much more the mirco-combat version, pawns vs. pawns, rather than kings vs. kings.
Take also into consideration the trailer for DUST - nukes from orbit :-) would you really need a titan ground unit, if you could just Phone a Friend? |

I just hate when people are like "no way man that idea is dumb cause it doesn't fill a niche" What does that even mean? Thats the point a tank fills the role of big heavyly armored gun the mech would have no place in dust warfare except as a game breaker. Two things can not fill the same role or the other will become pointless. And price is a poor balancing method, its not going to deter someone because if a tank cost 1mil and the mech cost 5 mil but that make can mulch though tanks and fill that tanks role then the tank would be pointless as everybody would use the mech. And comparing the mech to an eve titan wouldnt work either titans are anti capital ship ship. They cant fill the slightly more multiporpuse role of dreadnoughts. the mech would beable to accomplish the role, thus defeating the point of the tanks.
lordjnus wrote:Will MTAC be a tank killer you think... In the books mtac are like urban tanks meant to going into city and tight place so they were more like weaker but more mobile tanks |

the mech wouldnt be so large and powerful that noone would dare go near it, but would just be big enough to make them think but small enough that its not a 1 man army. just like in eve it has to have ground support to be a danger. in eve titans look big and terrifying but it needs a support fleet with it to be a real threat |

I stand by argument mechs would replace tanks and wouldn't fit into dust. |

As mentioned, MTACs are coming.
They WON'T replace tanks, imo, they'll fill a different role. Look forward to seeing what that is. |
