Why not: Standard at lvl 1, standard breach, assault, xxx at lvl 2. advanced normal at lvl 3. adv breach, assaul at lvl 4. prototypes at lvl 5.
This will give a better sense of progress. not the dead end through lvl 2&3.
hope this is a new idea. my smart phone is the only thing i got to post with since my puter died. |

I agree with this one. If the only function of the skill is to unlock stuff it's a bit senseless to have the levels 2 and 3 there just to follow the form set by EVE when new items are unlocked on levels 1, 4 and 5. It works better in the EVE skill training system where the training just ticks away passively, but in dust you drop a number of skill points on a skill and it is very anticlimatic to drop points and notice that you need to grind N times the number you just dropped to actually get new stuff. Might be enough just to sprinkle the existing items around or if you have stuff designed use those to fill the holes. |

I don't think you necessarily need new items at each level.
What I'd like to see are skill level bonus applied to weapons the same way it works for ship hulls in EVE.
What the skill level bonus should be, I don't know really. Definitely something that's not covered by other skills. Maybe a reduction in grid usage per skill level perhaps? |

Yes this!
For example, 10% additional effective range per level of Assault Rifle skill.

if we had the ability to sink points into a skill even if we didnt have enough to completely get it, this wouldnt be as big of an issue |

There's two ways that we can approach this:
1. The skill level bonus is in the description of the skill itself which would apply to all weapons in that class
- or -
2. Each weapon could have different skill level bonuses. Examples:
- basic assault rifle could get a slight reduction in recoil per AR skill level - breach assault rifle could get a slight increased rate of fire per AR skill level - tactical assault rifle could get a slight increase in range per AR skill level - etc... You get the idea

Either way we all agree that using 62k-500k Sp should give you something. Be it new toys or 2% bonus to something.
Weapons got their big skilltree for this allready got all kind of progress. Weapon/turret upgrades could give -2% cpu requirement pr lvl and stuff |

I know, but those skills affect all weapons in that class.
This way there's a little bit of specialization with each of the different weapons since the bonus would be different.
But whatever, just brainstorming. |

What if the bonus was in the weapon description. Say, assault +x% rof, breach +x% damage, burst +x shots per burst, tactical +x% accuracy.

I was saying the bonus should amplify weapon differences, instead of reduce them. Breach gets more damage not rof, standard gets faster rof not more accuracy. So, Slightly different then post#7. I should have been clearer by quoting post #7, before suggesting different bonuses.
There is a passive gain already for weapons, dropsuits need the added bonus more. It would be nice if both had a x per level bonus like ships in EvE. The weapon choices define the build more in Dust 514 then in EvE. |

my honest opinion it should be like this: lvl1= standard lvl3= advanced lvl5 + lvl 1 proficency= prototype
basically you unlock something every 2 lvls cause at the moment it annoys me that i have to wait from lvl1-4 until i can upgrade to advanced. |

Maybe have standard at lv1, breach/assault/burst/tactical, aurum at lv2, aurum advanced at 3, advanced and aurum proto at 4 proto at 5 tech II with the proficiency skill, maybe a different proficiency skill for tech II breach/assualt/bust/spec/ect... |
