Really? it's kinda early for mass variations on existing weapons..
How about all the missing features and core stuff before going down the rabbit hole?
The more time spent catering to little requests and less spent rounding out the continuity of the eve universe the more it's gonna look like some distended subfeature of eve.
We need Empire versions of everything. 4 versions of everything, featuring the play style and inherent strengths and weaknesses of each Empire Faction. Then we need Pirate Faction versions.
We need continuity within the Eve Universe, across the entire Dust 'world'.
We need ECM, Sensors and Dampeners, ECCM, CovOps, BlackOps, Etc. If weapons need tweaking beyond their initial variations, how about some different ammo types?
Obviously I'm coming at things from an Eve angle, but that was CCPs call, not mine.. The bed still needs to be made for us to sleep in it.
If Dust is going to be a part of the Eve Universe, then go all in. Dust should be like Incarna's wet dream with the addition of constant and 'Total War'.
As it is, roles are spread across all 4 Empire Factions, rather than
Each Faction having a complete 'suite' of complementary roles. Variations on Existing models are the LAST thing Dust needs..
As with Incarna's "Minmatar CQ" problem, a single version of something cool is completely useless when attempting to create persistent, immersive gameplay.
Your Universe (which I'm a huge fan of!) has multiple distinct variations, styles and tactical POVs, WHERE ARE THEY IN DUST?
Where are the Amarr?
LASORS, all sizes (sweet magilicutty!)
Energy Warfare
Where are the Minmatar?
Artillery, all sizes
Heavy Suits (they better look like a Welded Frankenstein)
Target Painter
Where are the Gallente?
Drones, all sizes
Sensor Damps
Where are the Caldari?
Guided Missiles, all sizes
ECM Jammers
Where are the Sisters of Eve 'Salvage and Recovery Jaws of Life'? (that I can use to extract a Tank pilot from a wrecked Tank, or rip apart a Turret installation with?!)
Where is the Blood Raider's "Sacrificial Biomass Extractor" (that I can pillage the organs and liquids of fallen Dusters, preventing their reanimation and possibly salvaging their Dust Link Implants?)
Where is the Sansha Nation "Re-Animation Injector" (that injects nanites into fallen Dusters, and forces them (slow zombie style) to shoot at the nearest living teammate)
Where is the Angel's Cartel LAV? (protip: its fast!)
Dust is missing its continuity in Depth more than anything else, so far it looks like you picked from the top of the pile for initial functionality, but the thing that makes the Eve Universe work is the Depth of racial differences. It's the thing that makes a player want to focus on a single specialization.
