I love Eve Online. Space games have always been my favorite, Eve moreso than anyother, and when I heard about Dust 514, I jumped in excitement. My anticipation only grew as I watched promising videos showcasing the gameplay and connection to the Eve Universe.
However, after two full weekends of playing Dust's closed beta, I am severely disappointed. The fitting is great, the idea of the MMOFPS is fantastic, the market and skills are very well done. However, the gameplay simply isn't up to par with what it should be. The accuracy of weapons is horrible. The lag can, at times, ruin a great sequence (like a killing spree). Vehicles dominate the battlefield because they come to easily as anyone can just call in the vehicle of their choice. The classes are severely unbalanced (if three people unload entire clips into someone, I'm sorry but that someone should not survive and kill everyone in one shot). Also, the amount of time it takes to gather skill points makes the game all but inaccessible to newcomers once everyone else has got going on their skills.
I don't want to seem like I'm just trolling on Dust 514. I sincerely had very high hopes for the game and still am trying to keep my faith in it. But as of right now, I truly hope they do not release this game in 2012 because it, quite honestly, needs alot of work. I'll continue to try the beta as new builds come out, but if they really do release this game in 2012 then all I can say is it's a good thing it will be free to play |

As somone who wasnt here in the last two builds its really easy to understand your lack of sense of ccp progression. When ccp patches they take leaps and bounds in improvements.
This is really an alpha work in progress there are alot of things getting worked on, crud tonn of things missing and without foundation it will always seem incomplete. We're getting a new build August 21st I say play to learn the game as much as you can now make a good skill plan and when the reset happens on patch day youll be better prepared for the next round of testing.
As for skill points we're acutally at a 4x rate right now. To be reduced at launch.
August 21 will address alot of bugs, polish up the graphics a bit, add new features such as the terrain generator, keyboard mouse support, fixed spawn camping, fixed redlining, getting rid of milita vehicles, creating ad hoc groups, and much more they've havent divulged yet.
I mean cmon you're an eve online player you should already know how ccp develops. |

This sounds entirely to be an issue with how you are allocating skills. With the newbie skill points you are given its best to decide prior to creating a new character what you want the character to do. Once you have decided pick your race appropriately that will give you some skills towards the desired build. Don't waste skill points on spreading your character out too thin.
Think about how you will approach the battlefield:
Will you snipe from afar? Will you plant demolition charges and lay in wait to ambush? Will you navigate the skies and bring fire down on those below? Will you crush your enemy under the treads of your tank or will you dedicate your self to their destruction?

Did you really expect to be the king of the battlefield in just a few weeks? There are people who have been playing longer than we have (little over a month for me). And many of the 'problems' you brought up are either going to be addressed on the next build or are only there for testing purposes. |
