At present the way we spawn makes no sense, not in a "persistent game world" anyway.
I always liked planetsides spawning system especially mass incursions via drop pods. It looked epic and felt epic too.
They are called drop suits, we should drop, not appear out of thin air like those franchise shooters that masquerade as being realistic. |

I think a combination of section 8 and star hawk would be good.
I think that perhaps the "free spawn" might be a bad idea as it seems that spawn points are part of the game design here, but perhaps an area within some radius of uplinks and objectives that you could "drop" into section 8 style would be cool. I think the visual could be like in the DUST immortal trailer though with the pod coming from space that way once you launch there is no control over where you land...you have to drop down in the spot you designated.
Also, squad spawn would be epic. If the squad leader could hit a button and wait for the squad to queue up and then drop all of them simultaneously, that would be awesome.
If you could just target any part of the map though, it would negate the need for dropships to transport and make it too easy to get anywhere on the map without support, so I think that it should be tethered to drop uplinks and to objectives and other spawn points that exist currently. |

Maybe a bit of a compromise. Here is my 0.2 isk.
At start of battle attackers have 2 options 1: LZ drop in 2: spawn in MCC then jump/fly/drive off and in to battle. But after the fight starts attackers should have 3 options. 1 spawn INSIDE a cru and step out ready to fight 2 spawn in MCC same as at start of the fight 3 spawn inside the MCC but be able to go to a room that has a warp device in it, and then get to choose which drop uplink you want to appear at if any are available. |

Section 8 spawn system would make sense, however the "spawn anywhere" fashion cramps the tactical style. Why use flanking maneuvers when you can just drop on the objective!?!? Also, inertia cancelers don't seem to have much in the way of guidance.
Instead, CRUs should be replaced with drop-zone beacons, guiding O-drops to a circular area around them. Hacking doesn't stop a drop in progress, and arbitrary spawn timers are replaced by an organic drop-from-orbit. Unfortunately, you still have to pick a suit first.
changes needed to work : >Limit radius of inertia canceler SFX >Kill for dropping on top of enemy >Drop Uplink modification. Current "wormhole" descript would be tricky here. |
