I took about three weeks off.
Logged in to the Beta this last weekend to find a million sp waiting. That was a good thing! Can't go all negative...
Played a few games.
The thing that caused me to rage the most was the ground. Getting stuck on the ground. Maybe a pile of sand or a slight rocky slope. And that sinking feeling of hopelessness when I'd be on a roll and strafing and shootin' and then I would run into something. Worse than fingernails on a chalk board or getting electrocuted. That jagged jitter of a massive collision with a very small obstacle.
Was kind of funny that was what stood out the most after taking some time off. Not really anything that we have argued to death in the forums. Nope, the ground is my nemesis. And the sometimes wacky auto aim/ aim assist/ hit detection with some match-ups was noticeable. But not nearly as rage inducing as tripping over the ground.
Guess I should have invested my million in a scout suit.
But I would highly recommend that everyone in Beta take at least one weekend off. Come back fresh and see what makes the biggest impression.

Inshallah, taking a week off would put us a week behind a new build.
Anyway, I find slopes to be a bit annoying to traverse, but I hadn't ever had an issue fighting where I got stuck on something. Most of the areas are quite flat except for around the outcroppings with walls on them and so forth. |

100% with you on this, Aighun. Until our Mercs can run without tripping up on rocks, and can reliably switch weapons, and the controller registers button presses, and hit detection works, it doesn't make a lot of sense for CCP to be working on higher-level features, or new weapons, or any other fluff. Make the game work first. Then make it feel good and sweet.
Then DUST might have a chance. |

This last build i was jumping on some hills with a structure wall next to it, then after my incredible leap of about a 3 feet jump i landed on another hill and died. Apparently jumping on hills is bad, haha, no one was around me! Stay away from any terrain bumps if you dont want to get as you call it, and i agree, "massive collision with a very small obstacle" |

THIS!
this issue was the only issue that I both posted in the feedback section and filled out a form through the survey site.
I was so sick of getting stuck in the 'quick sand' areas of the map. |

I couldn't agree more. Fix up all the issues, and improve the gunplay, then let us test the new stuff. Once the old stuff, and really the base of the game, is running smoothly, then let us get into all the new tech and game modes. |

Agreed, but stay away from the scout suit because your dead as soon as you stop moving. & you still can get stuck on the terrain. I have had so many frustrating deaths as i'm strafing right into a 1ft incline I can't see & just stop moving |

So I'm wondering if getting stuck on rocks or trapped in holes is simply a map issue and just needs a little map TLC, or if it is some kind of issue with the game engine.
Can anybody give some insight on this? |

Its likely a combination of both. Its the UnrealTourney engine, if you have played other labels using that engine you will get a good idea what it should be like.
This is my first time weighing in on this issue, but the game does indeed seem to mission that smooth austere. Not the supreme graphics, its beta, but the reliability of response from controller and that stuttering effect. The game feels like its being driven by old fashioned gears (vibration) than it does a finely tuned machine.
Now take in mind that said above may be because the PS3 could use a wipe. It needs a little more fluidity is all.
Also I think the fact we cannot as dropship pilots designate targets (with the trigger maybe?) that we are looking at is an issue. It pays to have comms but some people dont and our pubby gunners are too busy being useless (shooting the MCC or teammates instead of enemy).
In the end I trust in CCP. Im not one of the gripe-a-day people that fester in the forums (the happy people are too busy playing to post). They play these games too remember, and they have the same concerns as you. Remember this is their first FPS, and so far I think they are doing one hell of a job. |
